About New Britain Senior Center

New Britain Senior Center in New Britain, Connecticut, is an independent living community that hosts activities and meals for older adults. The center organizes frequent events including weekly card games, craft shows, dances with DJ entertainment, and seasonal holiday dinners.

Families' experiences vary notably. Those who attended special events—like holiday breakfasts with dancing, craft bazaars, and Thanksgiving dinners—consistently praised the staff for their warmth and the quality of programming. One visitor noted the center "always has events going on from weekly card games to senior proms." However, some newer visitors reported difficulty connecting socially, with one person finding the atmosphere unwelcoming during a regular lunch visit.

Accessibility presents a documented challenge. Multiple visitors noted that handicapped parking is limited and positioned far from entrances, and the facility struggles with temperature control during warm weather, making it difficult for those using mobility aids or with breathing concerns. One visitor recommended exploring out-of-town senior centers as more accommodating alternatives for people with these needs.

The center holds a 4.5 out of 5 Google rating based on 45 reviews, reflecting strong appreciation for its programming and special events alongside concerns about accessibility and social inclusion for drop-in visitors.

Difficult for those that use walkers and or wheelchairs. Handicapped parking is at a premium ( not much) and to far from either entrance. Very warm inside, not enough A/C. I recommend going to out of town Senior Centers where it is much more adaptable to those with walking and or breathing issues( in hot weather).

Not a friendly bunch. Went for lunch and no one spoke to me. If I made eye contact and smiled they couldn’t get away fast enough. Sat at a table alone and women would grab up the place mats and run to another table. Men sat either alone or in a small group of men. I did have one woman who was new speak to me as I was leaving. There isn’t any good reason to return. - Earl Owens.

They were hosting a breakfast that I accompanied my godmother to. There was a DJ and people were up dancing. The facility always has events going on from weekly card games to senior proms etc.

My neighbor and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal that we will never forget. We were so pleased! I recommend their event for next year. Salvation Army hosted it.
