Minnesota Veterans Home-Minneapolis

Minnesota Veterans Home-Minneapolis is a skilled nursing and domiciliary care facility located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, situated on a peaceful 53-acre wooded campus overlooking the Mississippi River near Minnehaha Falls. The campus contains 300 skilled nursing beds and 50 domiciliary beds in private and semiprivate rooms, serving eligible veterans and their spouses.

The facility offers skilled nursing care as well as a Domiciliary Program, which provides independent living with assistance managing clinical, mental health, financial, and social needs for veterans and spouses who are independently mobile. Services are designed to meet residents' physical, social, and spiritual needs, delivered by dedicated professional staff.

Residents enjoy diverse recreation activities and events both within the facility and in the community, supported by a calendar designed to help maintain independence. The dietary menu has been developed by registered dietitians to provide balanced, nutritious meals with different options to accommodate individual resident needs.

The campus setting provides walking and biking distance to a variety of city parks and lakes. The facility's history spans 130 years, beginning in the late 1800s as the Old Soldiers Home for Civil War veterans, and has evolved to prioritize the health care needs of veterans as its primary focus since the 1960s.

A Family Council, mandated by federal and state law, serves as a formal vehicle for communication and information sharing between administration, family members, staff, and residents. The council undertakes projects to improve quality of life, including sponsoring entertainment and events, producing monthly newsletters, and providing support and information to families of current and prospective residents.
