My mother has experienced various transitional care units (TCUs) throughout the Minneapolis area, and while many have presented challenges, she has found her time at MN Masonic to be quite positive. The level of care is commendable; she hasn’t faced the long wait times for assistance that have been an issue in other facilities. Additionally, she appreciates that the food quality is better than just acceptable. She enjoys participating in activities and social events, like bingo, which are offered regularly. The beautiful landscaping surrounding the building adds to her overall satisfaction. The mini-mart and gift shop provide a good selection of essentials, along with charming items such as purses and scarves. The grill is a nice touch, offering a pleasant space for lunch with family and friends. There’s also a small library that features a variety of books available for borrowing. Overall, MN Masonic definitely ranks among our top three facilities!

Let me start with the positive- the therapy aspect of Masonic TCU was wonderful. We choose Masonic based on the therapy so we stuck with it. PT/OT/Group/Speech were all excellent! At the opposite end of the spectrum was the nursing care. We had issues on a daily basis with not receiving a shower or bath for several days. After coming from a 5 day hospital stay I told the staff she hadn’t had a bath for over a week & requested this asap. It was 6 days before she was bathed. The staff did not put in her hearing aids DAILY, in spite of having signs posted several places the room. She also had a halter monitor that required she have the transmitter with her & this was consistently dead or not with her at therapy. When I addressed these things with the nurse manager, she was irritated & made excuses. When we took mom out for Christmas, i called ahead & told them when we were picking her up so she’d be ready. After bringing her home, we discovered she was wet all the way thru her clothes from urine. Also, I received a call after 9pm that they couldn’t find her- they thought she had returned at 2:45. That means over 6 hours went by before they noticed this. (When we picked her up and asked about signing her out, the staff said she’s fine to go so did not have us sign her out.) During a care conference, the nurse manager told our assisted living nurse that her skin had no open areas, in spite of the fact she had sores all around her halter monitor that I had been pointing out to staff. These are only a few examples but there are MANY. As a nurse of 40 years, this was completely unacceptable. If you are looking for therapy, you will be pleased but plan that the other 20+ hours of care will be a challenge.

Transitional Care Unit - I was there for 10 days of transition care for a total knee joint replacement. Love the staff! They are kind, caring, efficient, knowledgeable, etc. I am so glad that I went there. I would have never been so ahead in the recovery process if I did not go to Mn Masonic. I will be having the other knee joint replacement in the near future, and I'm not worried at all since I know where to go for transitional care. A+ :)

My parents have lived there for over 6 years. They have experienced all aspects of the home: independent living, transitional care, memory care, long term care and assisted living. Our experience has been wonderful. Very professional and caring staff who immediately respond to any concerns. I have visited daily for over six years and I have been very impressed by the loving care extended to all residents.

The Transitional Care Unit has major communication problems. They gave my family one week to find a different living situation for my Mom with barely any assistance. Our experience was nothing short of a nightmare. I've never written a review for anything. I'm doing so now, because the way we were treated was the worst experience of my life. Don't send your loved ones here.
