My husband and I contacted our ,hospice provider for much needed respite care. They referred us to MeSun health services. I was hesitant but our social worker assured us that my Mom would be in good hands. They let her stay in bed for 5 days without turning her. SHE RETURNED HOME WITH A BEDSORE!! I contacted James (The director). He said "I needed to speak with my Hospice provider regarding their order". I know for certain that all patients need to be turned at least every two hours. If an order is required to turn a patient, then that's a pretty low standard of care. James never apologized or took any responsibility for my Mom's condition when she arrived home after the respite stay with MeSun. We have an aide who is extremely competent and caring. We know the bed sore was not present before we entrusted her care to MeSun.

My first and only experience in rehab. I had fallen, had surgery, and came here, chosen because a friend was here and she spoke well of it. She was not wrong! I have had a super experience with the therapy here. The therapists are fun, lighthearted and caring. And challenging! I consider them friends now, and will honestly miss them when i leave. I've gotten so much better and am almost ready to go home because of their work with me. My room is comfortable and pleasant. The activities director always has something going on to entertain and keep the atmosphere light. The food, while not always great, is OK for the setting, and they have sandwich options, or friends/family can bring a meal in for you. Attention by the nurses and aides is always there, but this is not a hospital - it's a rehab so the level of attention is different from a hospital. Overall, I recommend MeSun for rehab.

My father was here for over a month for subacute rehabilitation after a stroke, and I thought I should write a honest review for others in similar situation. Positives: - For us, the location was determining factor. It was 5 minutes from our house and made it easier for my mother to visit daily. - Medical staff (doctors and NP) were responsive. My father saw the doctor at least once a week. - Rooms were on the larger side and comfortable. - The facility has a dedicated speech therapist who is wonderful. Negatives: - Limited PT/OT. The therapists who work here are kind and wonderful. But they're working with severe system restraints. Many of the therapists and therapy techs fill in the gaps of patient care technicians. With understaffing and not enough PCTs to help patients with basic function (getting around, getting out of bed, getting off the toilet etc), therapists are spread thin. They do not have the bandwidth to give a lot of patients individual attention. Monday to Friday, my father would go to the gym, which was quite small, and work out with other patients for about an hour. Pretty much everyone was given similar exercises to do and rotated through on bikes. Such methods helped my father with conditioning. He did get stronger, but it did not help his gait or improve his function. For post-stroke care, individual and targeted therapies are key especially during the first couple of months. I'm sad that he did not get that. - Food. The food at Mesun lacks both nutrition and taste. We were initially excited because there was Korean food option, but the meals did not follow the menu. One night, my father was served pieces of Spam and rice. I was appalled. I feel deeply sorry for the residents who are there long-term. For us, having to bring him every meal added extra layer of stress. - Lack of translation services. Despite Mesun being geared towards Asian population, I did not see a single video-abled rolling cart for interpretive services. - Lack of sound proofing. We were several doors down from the nursing station but could hear the nurses' conversation. - General lack of organization. a. The discharge process was chaotic due to social worker's poor communication and planning. She could not follow through on simple tasks (i.e. faxing over the correct order). Her incompetence resulted in delay in follow up appointments and my father missing 2 weeks of outpatient therapies. b. I was hounded by business managers to pay $1000 copay (multiple emails and calls), but no one could provide a secure method to pay online. After I asked multiple times, the business manager told me to email her my credit card number. My sister went in and waited 45 mintues to give her a check. c. The blinds broke in my father's room. We had privacy concerns since his room was clearly visible from the parking lot. We asked management to replace the blinds. We received no reply. It was eventually replaced after a week. I had to personally purchase and put up temporary blinds during that time. Apparently, there is no handyman (or engineer) on staff. For us, Mesun was the only choice becuase of circumstance (my mother cannot drive long distances). But we all wonder how much better he could have been if he had gone to a proper rehab facility. Avoid if possible. If unable to avoid, come prepared.

I had serious reservations about sending my mom to respite, but I was so burned out. BIG MISTAKE!!!! My mom was at MeSun's respite for just 3 days, and something in my gut told me to go check in on her. I found her nude in her bed with the exception of a rancid urine-soaked diaper and a bed sheet. She was also more confused than normal. I have been an RN for more than 23 years, and I know the difference between a diaper that's been wet for an hour or so versus one that has been for MANY hours. The CNA admitted to me that they were understaffed. I brought my mother home that very day. She was clearly dehydrated, and the medication packets that the hospice had provided had too many medications left in them. That means that there were missed doses of her medications over her 2-midnight stay. She came home with a UTI, extremely high blood pressure( likely from missed doses of medication) and more confused than usual. Long story short, this place appears to be solely profit-driven. I would not send my beloved dog there, let alone a loved one. I was more hurt than I was angry. My mother may be terminal, but she is a human deserving of dignity.
