What a beautiful place and positive atmosphere! We are so happy to see our family making friends and getting the care and support they need. Amazing how they can give each family as much time and individualized care as they do given the size of the facility, but they never let you feel that once! We’ve been clear about what we’ve needed and the staff have gone above and beyond compared to what other facilities have done. Thank you to the head nurse Jennifer and her team for providing the care and attention we were sold on from the beginning.

Update: It has been over a year since our mother became a resident. As an aging woman, she has had expected changes in her condition. Each of these changes has been met with compassion and great care. We remain impressed by the care staff and the administration. Jennifer Brett, Director of Health Services, has been outstanding. She has assembled a wonderful team of caregivers whom we have grown to love and trust. Their jobs are very challenging, yet each day they approached our family member with respect, treating her as if she was their own family member. Trusting Jennifer and partnering with her and her staff was a choice and a practice we were happy to commit to. We truly cannot thank Jennifer enough for always treating Mom as an individual and for working so diligently to meet her changing needs. Jennifer Brett is an excellent nurse and an even better human being. We came in with realistic, but high, expectations. Thank you Merrill Gardens for meeting or exceeding our expectations and for educating us when needed along the way.

Original post:
We first met Ricky Flynn for a tour. Immediately, we could tell that he was honest, knowledgeable and caring. He was absolutely instrumental in guiding us and for our decision to move our mother into Merrill Gardens. Nurse Jennifer Brett has been remarkable in her care and concern as we faced challenges that may be a normal part of a new resident's transition, but that we were unfamiliar with. Additionally, Tim Barresi, general manager, has demonstrated his genuine concern for our family member and us. Every single staff member has been sweet to our mom. From the maintenance crew to the kitchen staff to the med techs, we have felt these people really care. We toured several communities in the lowcountry and felt the difference at Merrill Gardens. The residents are also the most wonderful people, each saying hello when they pass and inviting Mom to activities. Since we are new, we don't know everyone by name, yet, but we do feel like part of a family. We appreciate the trusting relationships the administration and staff are building with us and our mom. We are forever grateful for their level of care and for treating our family member as an individual and with dignity.

I was visiting a friends parent the other day and I was so very impressed with a Merrill Gardens employee and how she spoke so kindly and was reassuring a nice lady that her concerns were being addressed . The lady was so relieved and thanked her and seemed so at ease as she continued to have her lunch . I asked the folks I was visiting who the employee was and they said her name was Jennifer and she was the nurse on staff and always seemed to be able to help them when they needed her . Often you don’t see such care given when people are busy in their day . Glad to see at Merrill Gardens

Zero stars. Anyone considering this place for their loved one who is in need of assisted living, don’t. I can’t even begin to explain my disappointment with their management and service to my grandmother over the last month. It did not take my family and I long to realize that this place is a lie and was not providing the care that was requested for my grandmother, like they told us they could provide. First off, we were told that my grandmother would receive a full welcome tour on her first day, in which when we arrived for that tour, the staff acted like they had no idea what we were talking about. From day 1 at this facility, the head “nurse” Jennifer did not properly input the medications into the system so my grandmother was not receiving her necessary medications for a couple of days. I had to go to the end of the hallway myself to ask the med tech to give me my grandmother’s meds. This probably happened because they have an LPN (Jennifer) running the nursing side of things, not an experienced BSN or MSN RN with administrative experience. By the end of my grandmother’s stay here, when we attempted to bring her home for further care, Jennifer attempted to keep legal documents that belonged to us and would not allow us to have them back when asked for. Along with that issue, there were very rude staff “care” givers telling my grandmother to her face that she didn’t belong there. So much for making a new resident feel welcomed. There were NUMEROUS times my grandmother needed help getting up, she would press the emergency help button in the bedrooms and bathrooms, and no one would come to assist. They would leave my grandmother sitting for HOURS in soaked padding, which eventually led to bed sores. This is NEGLECT on their part. They will advertise and tell you that they provide all levels of care as long as the resident doesn’t have any sort of lines or tubes, but in reality they provide very minimal level of care and then will tell you later on that they don’t provide the certain services that your loved one will need. Do NOT trust the team here. We eventually had to move my grandmother back into her home where we could get home health onboard to begin help caring for her. Upon leaving Merril gardens, Jennifer kept hold of our legal documents we needed regarding my grandmother’s health care and she refused to release our legal documents to us, until we demanded she give them to us. Overall, this was a very frustrating, heart breaking experience we had to witness at Merrill gardens. We have learned from this, and want others to know the truth of this hostile place.

The staff at Merrill Gardens is truly amazing. From Tim the general manager to Jeff the business manager, including Jennifer the head nurse, and Nicole who runs daily activities, each brings a level of professionalism and dedication to their jobs that is impressive. My mother is a current resident and absolutely loves the facilities and daily activities and the folks who make it feel like home. Highly recommend this assisted living facility. Having toured most options in Mt Pleasant, Merrill Gardens is a true stand out.
