I DO NOT recommend Longmeadow Healthcare Center to anyone considering care for a loved one.

When my grandfather was first admitted for skilled nursing rehab, the staff initially appeared attentive, kind, and welcoming. Unfortunately, that level of care did not last beyond the first night. Call lights routinely went unanswered for over an hour, with little awareness or communication about patient needs.

My grandfather arrived with a catheter and consistently complained of pain. Each time, he was dismissed and told it was “normal.” After a later hospital visit, we learned he had not been properly cleaned and had developed an open, bleeding sore. There were no doctors on staff, and the physician assistant spent only a few minutes with him during visits, often seeming unfamiliar with his chart and unable to answer basic questions. Some staff spoke to residents in a way that felt demeaning and lacking in respect.

The facility appeared severely understaffed. The employees present seemed overworked, and despite being there almost daily advocating for my grandfather, I was repeatedly told, “I’ll let the Director of Nursing know,” with no meaningful follow-up or improvement.

What ultimately led us to remove him was the lack of urgency when his condition declined. On March 23rd, I noticed extreme fatigue and dark urine and raised concerns about a possible infection. I was told a UTI test would be done. By March 25th, his condition had worsened significantly. He was confused, hallucinating, and not making sense. At that point, I was told no sample had even been taken.

On March 26th, I arrived to find his catheter filled with blood. I demanded immediate action. While staff acknowledged it could be a serious infection, they were unable to start an IV and instead called an external team located over an hour away. We waited eight hours while his condition continued to deteriorate, and no one arrived. I ultimately insisted they call 911.

When emergency responders arrived, the sudden shift in staff behavior felt more like a performance than genuine concern. Since leaving in the ambulance, no one from the facility has reached out.

My grandfather passed away three weeks later from complications related to that infection.

We have filed a report with Adult Protective Services. In my opinion, this facility needs a full investigation. Please think very carefully before trusting this place with someone you love.

They neglect your loved ones! I’ve seen it with many patients including one of my loved one! They’re way too comfortable with it too! I’ve made eye contact with a CNA neglecting someone’s loved one! Also they cover cameras in the room as well!! My love one sits in her filthy diaper for hours sometimes days (not including a lot of other neglect my loved ones goes through) STATE DOES NOTHING!!!! The facility knows that and that is why they continue doing what they do! This nursing home is absolutely disgusting and needs to be shut down immediately!!!!

I've been here for almost 4 years.
The food here is not so great.
The nursing staff is friendly and caring while the CNAs have a tendency to not answer call lights in a timely manner. Some of the staff do not wear their name badges as they are required to do so while on duty.
The smell in some halls can be unbearable at times.
The kitchen staff can be ignorant to our needs once in awhile. Coffee dispenser has broken down several times and some times we have had to wait at least week for it to be repaired. We run out of coffee concentrate often and we are told it will be on the supply truck next Wednesday.
Laundry service for personal items has been good while for bedding lining, as been fair to poor.
Physical and occupational therapy are good. Daily activities is also good.

Update: it's been 10 days now and the coffee dispenser is still broken. We used to be able to get just hot water out of it, but now the kitchen staff has it completely turned off and I can't make instant coffee anymore.
