Moving grandma to an assisted living center was not an easy decision, especially since she only needs precautionary care. The only way we would give it a try was if we found a home that felt safe, welcoming, and loving. Kina 'Ole helped ease our minds and hearts from move-in day. There is no doubt Grandma is in the best of hands. She is actually thriving because of Kina 'Ole's care. She looks forward to daily activities and exercises. She laughs; she eats; she has renewed energy and motivation. The caregivers at Kina 'Ole have actually become extended family. They dote on her and make every effort to make sure she is happy. We feel the love each and every time we visit her, and that has made it all worth it!

Their property is surrounded by lush tropical landscaping, providing a serene and therapeutic environment for kupuna to enjoy! The homes are designed to ensure comfort and also for care to be rendered promptly. “ This place is PERFECT,” my uncle said to me approximately two weeks after he first moved in. Why is it perfect? Probably because he asked us to find him a local senior living facility that provided 24/7/365 assistance from caring providers he could understand well, who would allow him to do as much as he could independently yet be there when he need them, and where he could age in place. Additionally, we were impressed with the large bedroom and private bathroom, the ‘ohana-like feel of Kina Ole Estate-‘Elima, and how extensively qualified staff would oversee his medical needs. Now I can go on vacation without worrying knowing he’s in good hands.

My grandmother was checked in to live at Kina 'Ole Estate about 2 months ago. Her house mates are all in advanced stages of dementia (which I can confirm after visiting her), so she says she has no one but employees to talk to. She is starving for more social contact and more activity, both physical and mental. My wife and I mailed her jigsaw puzzles and coloring books, since she feels there is not much else for her to do each day. Her growing depression is noticeable (I know her signs very well, having taken care of her for 8 years 2012-2019).<br><br>There are some good points to mention: The facility looks great! The staff were very polite and competent during our visit. Everything was done in a very friendly, relaxing manner. Grandma has her own bathroom and bedroom, out of 8 bedrooms in that house.<br><br>But if you lined up all 6 residents in that household, my grandmother would be the only one coherent, self-aware, cognizant, and seeking to hold a conversation. I struggle to understand who would believe her needs would be the same as the others in that household, and who would not act to rectify her situation to the best of their ability as professional senior health-care providers.<br><br>But my pleas to her resident manager to reexamine my grandmother's needs have gotten no response at all, all of which ends with my rating of 2 stars.<br><br>Perhaps this review may achieve what my messages would not - someone to realize my grandmother needs more social interaction and activities than this care home is providing, as she is not a victim of advanced stage dementia as of yet, and to take steps to help her before depression causes her to deteriorate.<br><br>Update: Spoke with the owner. She was dismissive of my concerns. She said that my grandmother has lots of social contact and activities, thinking I had not spoken to my grandmother. I had, and repeated that she said she has no one but employees to speak to as the other residents are all withdrawn. My grandmother has said this from the start and maintains that is the same problem now. She eavesdrops on the conversations that the neighbors have at night because she has no one to talk to.<br><br>The owner then said my grandmother was lying & being manipulative, which, btw, negates the owner's argument that my grandmother has severe dementia. Long term deception and manipulation are NOT feats that severe dementia victims are capable of sustaining.<br><br>Regardless, it is obvious my grandmother is not happy there, and shouldn't that be the priority? The owner hung up on me. Dropping my review from 2 stars to 1.

The staff at kinaole is warm and caring. You can feel their passion for our kupuna. The facility is clean and spacious.
