About Kentmere

Kentmere Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is a skilled nursing facility offering rehabilitation services, senior nursing care, and specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care in Wilmington, Delaware. Located in the North Wilmington neighborhood of Forty Acres, the facility has served the community since 1901 as a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting those who need assistance with daily living.

The center provides subacute rehabilitation for patients transitioning from hospital care, including postsurgical care, orthopedic rehabilitation, wound care, and management of chronic conditions. Physical, occupational, and speech-language pathologists work with patients at least five days per week to optimize mobility, communication, and daily functioning. The facility features a spacious rehabilitation gym with a simulated home kitchen for practical training. Nursing staff are trained in IV care, catheter management, and monitoring of complex medical needs, with an interdisciplinary team meeting regularly to review patient progress.

Kentmere's Montessori-trained team specializes in care for residents with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in a secure unit. Staff members are certified Montessori Memory Care Practitioners who provide structured activities and a secure environment designed to help residents feel safe. The dementia program includes the "Our Day" schedule, which balances structured activities with residents' freedom to move about the unit.

The facility maintains robust infection control practices, including COVID-19, influenza, and pneumonia vaccinations. Air handling systems use bipolar ionization to reduce airborne particles, and patient rooms undergo ultraviolet light treatment after standard disinfection. The Activities Department provides a diverse calendar including stretching, games, arts and crafts, music, and outings. Residents are encouraged to participate in dining room meals, salon services, and social activities that promote independence and connection with family and friends.

Kentmere accepts Medicare, private insurance, long-term care insurance, private pay, and Medicaid. The facility maintains staffing ratios that meet or exceed Delaware's requirement of 3.28 hours of direct nursing care per day per resident and does not rely on temporary agency nursing staff.

Kentmere has been a great place for my mother who has been here for a year and a half. We love coming here. She receives good care for the most part and when there are minor issues it gets resolved quickly. Physical therapy is outstanding. The laundry employees are a delight and take such great care of her clothes making it stressfree for me. She has a beautiful private room and the public areas like the dining room and sitting room are decorated nicely. Food is plentiful. Maintenance responds to any issues quickly. The well landscaped facilities are in a historic section of Wilmington that is so under-rated for its beauty. Very safe area. Great building security and front desk staff who are friendly and conscientious. Recently, there has been a tremendous improvement with the activities offered due to a change over in management of the facility. I love the activity aids...they are so kind and sweet to the residents. My mom feels at home here and has made some wonderful friends. The secret is to stay involved with the care.

The staff is friendly and attentive . It is kept very clean ,wonderful rehab if you need it . No place is perfect you just have to stay involved . When concerns arise we get them addressed . They have been new management recently that is doing a wonderful job . The other reviews are old and out dated . It is a new season for Kentmere ! Check them out ! When you walk in Kentmere it feels more comfortable then most places we visited especially with the friendly staff .

Today I had the please to visit Kentmere. From the moment that I signed into the facility the staff was very welcoming. The waiting area was very inviting. When you looked around you saw flyers promoting the upcoming activities for the residents. Staff talked to each other with respect and looked as if they were happy to be at work. Leslie the HD and Tirus were very friendly and showed they cared about the residents, their families and the employees that worked there. Great job on first impressions.

I am deeply disappointed and concerned about the standard of care at this facility. My father was a recent resident for the past 6 months, and his experience was truly unacceptable. The living conditions are far below what was advertised. The rooms are poorly maintained, cleaning is infrequent, and the communal areas have rats and terrible odors. Most alarmingly, my father suffered a fall in his room two weeks ago that I believe was entirely preventable. The staff response was slow to respond and didn’t follow protocols. We were not properly informed about what happened or what steps were taken afterward. Several of the nursing staff and CNA are dismissive, impatient, and at times outright rude to residents. Call buttons go unanswered for long periods, and requests for basic assistance are frequently ignored or met with irritation. I would strongly urge anyone considering this facility to look elsewhere. Our elderly loved ones deserve dignity, safety, and genuine compassion. None of which seem to be priorities here.

Both of my parents are residents at Kentmere - Ive been very pleased with the team there. I can say the facility is kept clean, the team is very nice and I am overall pleased with my parents care. The rehab team is fantastic, they communicate well and are always looking to assist. My Mom has been there for several years and there is very little turnover of the staff. Dad has been there just about a year and again, the staff are fantastic!
