John Bertram House of Salem

John Bertram House of Salem is an assisted living community in downtown Salem, Massachusetts, housed in a beautifully restored historic Federalist-style home across from Salem Common. Massachusetts' first certified free-standing assisted living community, it reopened in 1990 following extensive restoration of the original 19th-century property.

The community operates on a social model of care that supports residents' independence while providing personalized assistance when needed. A professional staff including a Resident Care Director, Wellness Nurses, and Assisted Living Coordinators collaborate with each resident and their family to create individualized service plans. Residents retain their own personal physicians and specialists, and the community's caregivers provide daily support ranging from meal service and activity assistance to personal care.

Dining at John Bertram House features chef-prepared meals crafted from fresh, quality ingredients, with accommodations for special dietary needs and preferences. Each residence is uniquely designed to reflect the character of the original architecture while providing modern comfort and accessibility. Pets are welcome, subject to some restrictions.
