1 star — Avoid if you need responsive communication or attentive care My mother was a patient at Hunterdon Care Center, and the experience was deeply disappointing, a stark contrast to the "stellar experience" the facility's own website promises. Unreachable staff. When my mother was admitted, I met the head of nursing who gave me her card and told me to call her anytime with questions. I called three times and left messages each time. I never received a single callback. The doctor was equally inaccessible. I met the covering physician the day she met my mom and asked for a business card. She said she didn't have one but to just call the center and ask for her by name, since "everyone knows her." When I did exactly that, I was told it was impossible to reach her directly and the best I could do was leave a message for them, and they would relay it to the doctor. The phone system itself seemed designed to prevent contact. Calling almost any extension usually routed me to a general mailbox, and it didn't mattery what time of day you called. The only reliable way to reach an actual person was to press 0 for the operator (who would then transfer me, often right back into another general mailbox) or to ask for Joseph in Administration, who was the one person who consistently answered or returned calls. Joseph is also the only person who actually seems to be able to get things done in the facility, as any problems I encountered, he is the only person that seemed able to solve them. Staff attitude toward patients was concerning. On more than one occasion, nurses spoke to my mother in a controlling, dismissive tone, comments like "I'll decide when you get out of here," that felt more about asserting authority than providing care. Therapy services were inconsistent. PT sessions were overcrowded, making it difficult for therapists to give individual patients real, focused attention for any length of time. Overall, the operation felt sloppy: poor follow-up, no returned calls, and no clear way to get answers about my mother's care. If you're considering this facility for a loved one, be prepared for serious communication gaps. I would not recommend it.
