Our mother was at Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta until her passing at age 91. I can't say enough about the staff that took care of our mother and treated her like family. It's very hard when a parent can't live alone safely anymore. We wanted our mother in a clean, safe and caring place which is why we chose Home of the Good Shepherd. While a resident, Mom was able to live in her own room with furniture we brought from her home. The staff keep the folks busy with activities, entertainment and social events. Having our mom here gave us all peace of mind.

My father was extremely well cared for in The Home of the Good Shepherd’s Memory Care Unit. After caring for my father at home for many years as his Alzheimer’s disease progressed, we made the difficult decision to have him cared for in a different setting. We chose The Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta after visiting many memory care units in the Capital Region. Our decision was based on many factors, including their caring staff, an up-to-date and appropriate setting for people dealing with memory issues, and the types of activities available. He seemed very happy there and when the time of his passing came, we were blessed to have the care of hospice nurses to augment the care of the Good Shepherd staff. My mother often says, she wishes we made the decision to make the transition sooner.

Home of the Good Shepherd is a God send to us. My sister is extremely well taken care of, the staff is super friendly and helpful, the food is wonderful, and the programs, including many musical performances a month, give my sister such comfort and joy.

Kim was and still is extremely kind and helpful. We so appreciate her handling of admittance and any ongoing issues. John and I recently filled out the survey. John does not participate in any activities through no fault of Good Shepherd. John is a bit of a loner. Please know that Kim and the rest of the staff are very good to John. I’m happy to clarify the kindness that was extended to John.

We're now on my third relative to live at the Home of The Good Shepherd in Malta.<br><br>My father is the current resident.<br><br>He has been a frequent visitor since 2015 when his brother and sister-in-law moved in.<br><br>When it came time for him to choose a new home, he hopped in his car and showed up on their doorstep.<br><br>Unfortunately, you can't just show up and be given the keys to a room.<br><br>"Cruise director" Kim guided him (and us, his children) gently through the process to get him situated as soon as was possible.<br><br>He's been there a couple months now and has settled in nicely.<br><br>He wishes the evening refreshment cart included scotch but we all have our burdens.<br><br>I've been a weekly visitor since 2022 when I took over as the responsible party for my aunt.<br><br>I've always had pleasant interactions with residents and staff.<br><br>There is always something going on to keep the residents engaged.<br><br>Aunt Sally loved the place and its people.<br><br>All but a few phone calls from them began with "Sally is OK" which I appreciated.<br><br>After 10 years, three relatives, and only one complaint about the scotch situation, I think it's safe to say the Home of the Good Shepherd is doing something right.<br><br>We’re grateful for the peace of mind—and Dad’s grateful for the piano.
