My dad was there for 3 weeks before he passed away. We were hesitant to place him there due to their past reputation but we were pleasantly surprised with the care. The owners have made improvements and the facility looks better. The nursing staff were wonderful.

As it is currently, the staff I have interacted with so far are decent people. They all don't know the policies and are understaffed but try their best to do their job and be helpful. They had a huge staff change recently and it seems like those who took over are taking all the necessary steps to make the changes they need. The only complaint I have is the food. I get a lot of it is USDA food that is given to them through the state and most of it is hard to make anything good out of. My issue is it is constantly bland overcooked casserole that often has an unpleasant smell. There was a night I was there visiting my loved one when dinner came in and when we looked at the plate it was barely a scoop of mac and cheese plopped on to the side of the plate. It was pathetic. Residents aren't even eating the main entree most of the time and surviving off the sides and snacks. Not getting your proper portions and being served uneatable food is not part on a healthy diet and can hinder recovery in people with severe medical conditions. Also I get that the residents can't always get what they want how they want it but some nights the dinner is tuna casserole. I think if someone doesn't like something like fish they should have some alternative to that. 3/5 for now but I can see this place getting better in the coming year.

My only problem is that no one answers the phone. I was hung up on today. After about 3 rings the first couple time and a few more rings after. Almost as if intentional. Not sure if the phones need fixed. There is also no way to leave a message with the front desk. I called today about my aunt who got switched to a new room, but wasn’t really able to articulate what happened or how much the change would be and when I called the facility, I could not reach a single person. Just a bunch of hung up calls.

My mom ( Arlene) was there for rehab and had excellent care . They take pride in keeping it clean and not smelly. My mother thought the food was excellent. Jennifer ( activities director) always made sure my mom got whatever she needed. The therapy department really went above and beyond as did the entire staff. We drove 45 minutes to the rehab and would go there again if needed. I was hesitant after reading the old reviews. Please don’t judge the facility based on that . It is not the same place. Thank you.

My father has been there for 2 respite stays now and had no complaints, he has been in 2 other facilities and didn't care for either one of them. this second respite stay he would only go if he could go back to Hillcrest. He enjoyed the food and the staff. If and when he ever needs another stay, we would for sure only go to this facility.
