I can't say enough good things about the staff here! Nursing, PT, OT and CNAs were all great! Short term rehab staff helped my dad get back on his feet! Great experience during a stressful time.

Hattie Ide Chaffee Home is such a great place. It’s clean, welcoming, and the staff really do treat the residents like family. We sent our dad there after his knee surgery and were nervous at first, but the care was amazing. Everyone was kind, but Nurse Sue truly stood out. She was so patient with our dad when he was anxious and always managed to calm him down and make him happy. She wasn’t there every day, but when she was, you could see the difference in his mood he was happier and more relaxed. When it came time for him to go home, she stopped by to say goodbye and our dad got emotional, which had us all in tears too. We’re so thankful for Sue and the whole team for making such a tough time so much easier. We really recommend this facility.

It has taken me a few months to be able to write and post this review. My Mom was admitted to Hattie Ide Chaffee Home on 5/26/24 after being at Miriam Hospital due to increased generalized pain and difficulty walking for rehab and then to go back home. My Mom was noted while at the hospital to be retaining urine and a catheter was placed while in the emergency room. The catheter was discontinued prior to discharge from the hospital and she was able to void on her own with assistance to the bathroom. The first night at the nursing home I was told by the nurse that during the night she became more confused and yelling out and they were changing her room due to complaints of the other residents. After that time I was never told of any more behavior issues or that Trazadone 25mg. 3 times a day as needed was ordered for her. To my knowledge she continued to void on her own when she got to the nursing home again with assistance to the bathroom. About 2 days later the nurse for some reason wanted to make sure that she was still voiding enough as they told me they had an order to catheterize her if she was not voiding enough. I stayed in the bathroom with my Mom and she voided 400cc at that time so it appeared that she had been going and we had the order discontinued. I received a call that night at 10:30pm from a nurse who wanted to know why the order was discontinued as she told me that my Mom needed a straight cath. to be done. She then said to me that it needed to be done or her bladder could burst and she could die or you can just call hospice. She then continued to say to me that your Mom is 97 years old almost 98 years old and she has just about out lived everybody! My husband was listening with me to the conversation and we both just looked at each other and said did she actually just say that to me? A nurse speaking to a family member like that! I did not even know what to say. I did tell her that I told them upon admission that my Mom can become severely constipated and we are going on day 4 of me asking for something for her which is a big concern. The nurses answer was well I guess I will have to give her a suppository then. I just broke down and cried. I do not even remember how the conversation ended. I went in the next day and reported it to the ADON and never heard anything back about the incident. I would stay with my Mom at the nursing home at least 6 hours a day and just noticed her to be increasingly tired and wanting to be back in bed by noon time. When I came in on Saturday morning there was a precaution cart outside of my Mom’s room. I asked the nurse why it was there and he told me that the notes stated that they had catheterized her twice and then placed a permanent catheter (Total of 3 times) in my Mom. I was never notified of anything! I made the decision at that time to take my Mom out of this facility. I cannot even imagine the fear my Mom must have felt having this done to her 3 times and without my knowledge. I told the nurse to get a discharge order as I was taking her home. He told me that he notified the director of nurses I was taking her home but I never heard anything from management. She came home with me on Sunday afternoon. When I looked at all her medications from the nursing home I received upon her discharge there were NINE empty slots of the Trazadone medication. Why wasn’t I notified if she needed to be medicated that much and there were behavior issues? How is a family not notified of anything! I am writing this not only for my Mom but for all the other residents who have no one to advocate for them. I want to end this by saying that I am a retired RN with over 30 years of working in a nursing home and the last 13 years in charge of a 40 bed dementia unit and this is not how it is done. UPDATE---On 9/9/24 this facility was cited by the Department of Health for giving my Mom (NINE) doses of Trazadone without making me aware of it. This citation and other citations against this facility and other nursing homes can be seen at Medicare.gov nursing home comparisons. Stay vigilant!

My father has had rehab here twice. The PT, OT (Denise)and staff has been wonderful. They all together got him on his feet. In November, the Thanksgiving Dinner in the Dinning hall was like being in a restaurant, he said. He was happy his family could join him.

Wonderful care...great nurses and their assistances...my only complaint is the quality of food...not great...could definitely be improved!
