My Mom was there for many years. I provided a one star due to the way they exited my Mom from care. Staff I had always dealt with and who cared for her literally “mentioned” to me the week she left that she was getting to be too much care for their staff. I contacted her social worker and was waiting for them to find her a new place with more care. That very weekend of the same week, they had “mentioned” it to me, they had the owner who is barely there and not very involved in day to day care for my Mom call me and tell me they were dropping her off at the ER. She was too much to care for and they were not allowing her to return back there. My Mom went into the ER walking with a walker. Confused as to why she was there. She left there weeks later never to walk again. Laying in that hospital bed and crying to go “home” was the cruelest thing you could ever do to anyone. My mom regressed terribly after that incident. When we had the care conf with the social worker, they attended via conf call and blamed me stating They mentioned she was getting to be too much care. Ha! Never “mentioning” they gave me a matter of days to try to pull everyone together. What really sent me over the edge is that Harmony told the social worker that my Mom was like “family”. I certainly hope they don’t treat their family that way. However if they do, I hope it’s the owner that called me (they are related) that they do it to. Maybe she should get a taste of how it feels. Here is my assessment, if your loved one has no special needs and will just sit and watch TV with their staff, then this may be the place for your loved one. My Mom was legally blind and had had a stroke. Each time I went to pick up my Mom or show up there, she was always laying in bed. No true interaction with most staff. Were all staff that way? No. Of course not. You had a few that I think truly enjoyed my Mom from time to time. They would take her for a walk. I found out later from the social worker that they were getting paid extra for doing special activities with my Mom for 6 hours per day. I can assure you beyond a shadow of a doubt it was not happening. I did have one staff member reach out to me after she left and I do think that one was actually concerned about my Mom and hoped she was doing well. Since leaving there, it’s been a whirl wind. The amount she regressed because they couldn’t wait for a couple of weeks to find more appropriate care was, if I had to sum it up in one word; cruel. Cruelty at its finest. I never heard from the manager of the house or her son after. Just the call from the Mom and owner of the facility. When I went to pick up my moms things, she actually acted offended that I didn’t want to speak to her. I was brazen because of what had happened to my mom and there was no regard to her what so ever. Yet she has the audacity to act offended by “my” actions or grabbing her things and leaving. So yes, after reading this review, make your decision carefully. Albeit they did mention if care became too much, that this “could” happen; they also stated it almost never happens and they would work with us. I am sure that was their muse to get us to place my Mom there. If I had to do it all over again, I would have placed her where she is now. The interactions, activities, and staff are light years better and they are working with my Mom to rehab her legs so that she can either walk with a walker again or at least be in a normal wheel chair. I’m hopeful that the care she receives now will allow for a better quality of life but I will never forget the call I got that day from the owner of Harmony. She is rude, crass, and brazen.
