Just moved our parents from the farm into Friendship Village, and we couldn't be happier with the quality, friendliness, and responsiveness of every single staff member. Mom and Dad feel so welcome and supported!

Reviewers generally describe friendly, caring staff who go out of their way to help residents feel at home, though several note visible short-staffing. A couple of serious complaints raise concerns about contract practices, pricing changes, and accountability for staff conduct, so families should ask direct questions before signing.

My Mom is a resident at Friendship Village & she seems to be getting very good care. All the staff I encounter are exceptionally friendly & helpful. You can tell they are a bit short staffed, but they have great people doing a splendid job. The staff doesn't complain about being short staffed, but you can tell they are keeping really busy. The staff seems to understand that the more active they are at work, the faster the time goes by. They all seem very conscientious.

After five family visits with Friendship Village leadership and numerous phone calls, our family feels Friendship Village is grossly incompetent and behaved in an unethical manner! In our family's judgment, Friendship Village tried to steer our family towards unpopular apartments by withholding available inventory, experienced too many contractions and erroneous information from Friendship Village to list, and perhaps worst of all Friendship Village requested an additional $50,000 at the time of signing from the previously agreed upon and advertised price. Our family believes this was an unethical bait-n-switch based on our elderly mother's net worth and nothing more. We're definitely going to look elsewhere!

If you are thinking of investing money or sending a family member here, don’t waste your time or money. This is by far the worst place in Waterloo to have a family member or loved one go. Any nursing home or assisted living is better then friendship village. If you don’t mind your family member to be disrespected and having all rights practically taken from them the second your family leaves, then this may be the place for you! They don’t tell you the horrible reputation they have upfront, they’ll just tell you The generic “we love our residents”. They do not hold staff (RA’s, CNA’s or nurses) accountable for inappropriate behavior or for not doing the expected jobs. But then again how could you hold staff accountable when management isn’t held accountable either. Just know your family member is not respected and is not cherished or loved in these facilities. Friendship village is here too collect a check one way or another. They are building a new facility but can’t even take care of the ones already up and running. Just know your family member will not get the love and attention they need because they can’t staff the facilities properly, more residents equals more staff to be able too take care of all the people. No, not in this case. Everyday they are working with less and less unqualified staff. The saddest part the residents And families sometimes don’t understand they are being neglected Or mistreated and they have no where else too turn or go. They have invested thousands and thousands of dollars to not have their needs taken care of. If you take anything from this post, please do your research& do NOT send your family or friends in this direction. Or if you have a family member already living in a friendship village facility-see what you can do too get out ASAP.
