My sister and I are both nurses, about a year ago we placed our mom at Esther's Place, and we both agree, it was the best decision we made. Leslie and the staff are incredible. As nurses we observe the staff and their interactions with everyone and we know we couldn't do a better job! After all my mom has done for her children, she deserves to be in a place that we all call home, Esther's place!

My uncle has lived at Esther’s Place for years, he has struggled with mental illness his whole life and when my grandparents passed away back in the mid 90s my parents did not know where they would be able to find him a place to live. Finding supervised care for those that suffer from chronic mental illness is so difficult, his physical needs were not as challenging as his mental health needs. He grew up in Parkville and leaving that area was not an option bc he likes to visit familiar places, this helps with his anxiety. He spent several years in a few different places that didn’t offer the structure he needed to stay on his meds, it was a very stressful time and we worried for his safety and health. When my mom found Esther’s Place it was like a blessing, my uncle feels like he is at home with his surroundings and the staff are like family. He had a stroke a few years ago and his level of care changed, but the staff adapted to his needs and continued to offer him the same personalized compassion they always have. They know him and what his physical health and mental health needs are, he attends the adult daycare close by and the staff works with my dad (since my mom passed away a few years ago) to coordinate the needs they meet and ones that our family can meet for him. Living out of state and having my own family I do not get to see my uncle like I did when I was growing up, he is a very special man that when I speak with him on the phone, I know he is getting the care he needs in an environment that is absolutely perfect for him. Thank you to all the staff that loves my uncle like family, you are all true blessings from God and angels on earth!

I highly recommend Esther's Place. Our family needed to place a loved one who has early onset dementia. Early onset dementia creates any number of complications for assisted living homes, due to the younger age and increased activity level of those patients. Esther's Place has a very caring staff, who were able to navigate those complications and worked very hard to keep the situation under control. They continue to provide excellent care for our loved one. Leslie and her wonderful staff will always have our profound gratitude.

My mother-in-law had previously been in a much larger assisted living facility for a couple years, and my wife and I constantly had problems with them: missed medications, unkind staff, mixed up paperwork, etc. When they raised their rent, that was the last straw, and we looked into Esther's Place. The proximity is perfect. We live in Parkville, and any location is just a few miles south. The owner, Leslie, a nurse with 37 years of experience, was more than helpful in transitioning my mother-in-law to the Montebello location, one of four locations she has. She texts occasionally with updates on my mother-in-law's progress. The scaled-down operation was perfect for her. It's essentially a large house with maybe 10-12 other residents, and the staff are not stretched too thin between them. She gets her medication on time, the staff is friendly and helpful, and they're even flexible with certain issues. For example: the staff normally wake the residents up and get them ready for the day around 8:00am, but my mother-in-law has medication she takes as early as 5:30am, and she's been waking up that early anyway for years, so at first, she was awake in bed for several hours since she lacks the mobility to get herself. After speaking with a caregiver, they arranged for the night shift to wake her up and get her ready for the day separately at 5:30am. This is just one example of how understanding the staff is when it comes to a resident's specific needs, and a good portion of the staff has been working with Leslie for years. The manager, Natasha, has also been helpful in organizing day care. She's easily reached by phone if there are any concerns that arise. They don't have any organized activities of their own in the home, but there are several adult day care facilities nearby, including Today's Care, which is just a few blocks away from the Montebello location. They work closely with Today's Care and, as a result, Today's Care offers an extremely fair price to any Esther's Place residents. I checked out the location myself, and the staff there are incredible, and work with a wide range of seniors, some with dementia, and other younger people with physical and mental disabilities. All of these adult day-care facilities provide transportation to and from their respective locations. Separately, just an example of the extra steps the Esther's Place staff took: they made up her room beautifully. They helped decorate with her family pictures and wall art, and placed all of her necessities nearby on her end table within reach. Overall, this type of environment was exactly what we were looking for. My mother-in-law is no longer getting lost in the cracks of a large facility. The best part is how happy she is. She's more upbeat than I've seen her in several years, especially considering that she has problems with anxiety. I highly recommend any of the Esther's Place locations to anybody looking for a home for their elders. The price is fair, they care for them until end-of-life, and best of all, it's small and simple. In our experience, it was the perfect fit.
