Honestly, I don't know if this is going to work out with Mom being there. It seems like one thing after another keeps happening. Today, she wanted to know if she could take a shower because she hasn't had one in quite a while. She was told that showers are only on Sundays. What concerns me is that she also says she hasn't been offered an opportunity to wash up at all.
I just got off the phone with her, and she's pretty upset. She said she's going to talk to someone there, although I'm not sure who she plans to speak with.
I'm feeling a little lost about what to do. I know there can be misunderstandings, and I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I wanted to reach out and let you know what Mom is telling me and see if you have any guidance or insight into the situation.
6/13- So, I guess Mom was able to get oatmeal first, but when she asked for seconds, they brought her eggs instead. She also refused to go to the dining room to eat, so from what they told me, she didn't receive her tray until almost 10:00.
I hate that there seems to be so much "he said, she said" going on, and it's hard to know exactly what happened. What I do know is that Mom has made up her mind that she will not be returning after her surgery on Monday. As much as I may disagree, I can't force her to stay.
I just wanted to keep you updated.
6/14. I came to visit with my mom today and I come into her room with a so called turkey cheese lettuce sandwich on her side table. The lettuce was brown and the bread was old, you could tell my touching it. Then hee dinner tray came, my mom was asked at 2pm what she wanted for dinner which was oatmeal and maybe a pancake. Well sure was told right away she couldn't have a pancakes. When he try cane there was no oatmeal on her tray, they added another old turkey sandwich, cold chicken noodles soup from a can and salad with no dressing. Thank goodness I had brought instant oatmeal from my house. Because I mean it must take hours to make oatmeal here. It was to finally see the snack tray because in the 5 days my mom was never offered. Myself and her granddaughter ended up spending our money to bring her snacks. Also the nurses act like they never know what I'm talking about, when I was asking questions about my mom medicatios and her surgery protocols, I feel that if I didn't start on top of all this nothing would have gotten done. It's very frustrating when I'm talking to the nurse while she trying to run out the door. I felt like I got no attention regarding my mom care or the questions I had
Now I don't want this to end on such negatively because their are so many amazing CNAs that try so very hard to make every resident feel loved and cared for. I have worked in health care my whole career and I'm very disappointed in some the staff members here, how their attitudes are so short and rude. How they can't go the little extra mile to make some residents day brighter. I feel that there needs to be an in-service done regarding what with that was your grandma, your mother, your sister, your daughter, your father, your grandpa, etc. So much rude and negatively when my mom was upset regarding her care and her meals. In the week that my mom was here, she never once got the correct meal she asked for.
