The staff members at Diversicare are friendly and helpful. It's always very clean when I come to this establishment. Housekeepers stay on top of their cleanings.

I came here to visit a family member and let’s just say the building was so clean and tidy. The admins were definitely friendly. And one particular guy who’s the House keeper supervisor was out helping, which that’s something you rarely see. I would definitely recommend this building for your relatives. The nurses seemed to be very active making round and checking on their residents. I love to see this type of behavior. Keep up the great work guys!

This place has staff from nurses,Cnas, and head/Charge Nurses that were Extremely Lazy, Nasty Attitudes, and they didn't want to help a stroke patient that was totally paralyzed on side of their body. The rooms were run down and old and needs some up dating. If you love your LOVED ones don't take them HERE because trust and believe they will get NEGLECTED.

A Veteran's Deeply Disappointing Stay at Diversicare (1 Star) As a 65-year-old veteran, my month-long stay at Diversicare (late Sept. to late Oct.) for IV treatments and therapy following left femur/hip surgery has been profoundly negative. I am now home, but my time there has triggered a deep depression and daily nightmares. If this is a 4.2-star facility, I dread to see a lower-rated one. I absolutely would not recommend this place. Major Concerns: Medical Care, Hygiene, and Staffing * Medical Assistance Failures (Unacceptable): * Pain Management Gaps: Upon arrival and again four days before discharge, the facility ran out of my essential pain medication, causing me to go without for extended, unacceptable periods. This was preventable. * Missed IV Treatments: I was scheduled for crucial, twice-daily IV antibiotics for 28 days to fight a dangerous prior infection. Two nights in a row, no one administered this medication. Staff gave excuses ("you probably missed it" or "the course might be over"). * Fungal Infection: I developed a gray and red fungus on my face, which later caused my face and ears to peel. * Improper Transfer: I was transferred from UMMC in Jackson but sent to a hospital in Hattiesburg, whose ER doctor confirmed I should have been sent back to UMMC. * Appalling Housekeeping and Hygiene: * Contaminated Bathroom: I shared a bathroom with a patient who had frequent, explosive diarrhea, leaving feces covering nearly every surface. Despite complaints to the Housekeeping Supervisor, who made an odd excuse about bleach on the porcelain, the issue persisted. I spent $150 of my own money on cleaning supplies to keep the bathroom usable for myself. * Bloody Bandage: A used, bloody bandage remained on the bathroom floor for three days before a cursory, five-minute cleanup was performed—the undersides of the seat and commode were still covered in stool. * Overflowing Toilet: When a toilet overflowed, the nurse could only offer a filthy, cluttered shower area bathroom, which I refused to use. * General Filth/Pests: My brother noted wet and dry bloodstains on corridor and room floors, as well as numerous insects. On one occasion, the room was sprayed for bugs while we were eating a meal. The entire facility, including hallways and the therapy area, was cluttered with unused items. * Staffing & Attitude (3 Stars for effort, 1 Star for execution): * The majority of staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. * However, the lack of adequate staffing was the main issue and seemed to be the root cause of many problems. * A few staff members were unhelpful. In one instance, an aide scolded me like a toddler, turned her back, and walked away without helping me put on a shoe so I could get to therapy. Other Issues: Meals and Therapy * Subpar Meals: Meals were consistently bad (undercooked, overcooked, or over-microwaved) and unappetizing. Requests for simple items like hot water for tea, whole milk, and a sandwich for lunch were met for a short time but then stopped. * Insufficient Therapy Focus: While the therapy staff was fantastic and helpful, the facility is listed as short-term rehab but primarily offers Occupational Therapy (OT). I critically needed Physical Therapy (PT) for my recovery. With only one full-time therapist for a 60-bed facility, I only received 15 minutes of OT, five times a week. The staffing level appeared grossly inadequate to cover the patient population. Note: Due to the character limit, I will be adding more details in follow-up comments.
