The good, the bad and the ugly.
They are short staffed for aides and nurses in sub-acute care. So if you buzz them, could take about 20-45 minutes for someone to come. There were times I needed my meds at a certain time and didn't get them. The aides on the night shift could be quite mean. When they finally showed up they were annoyed you bothered them and were a bit rough if changing you. I nicely asked one of the aides for her name, and she said said no. And refused to give it to me. She had no name badge. I said you know my name, why can't I know yours. Never got it.
The social worker, Archie, was racing around (again overworked) and didn't make me feel like she had my best interest at heart. She tried, but I think overworked, as well.
Food was rarely hot. Would be lukewarm at best. Eggs in AM were cold.
The good was PT. Umesh and Dana were great! They really helped to strengthen you. The PT supervisor, Dan, never/rarely cracked a smile.
There were 4 exceptional nurses. Penny, Tracy. Desmond and...xxx (can't remember her name).
The very best aide was Yvette. Incredible!! If I woke up in morning and she was there the weight was lifted off my shoulders. Pierre was good, but not there very often.
I moved to Respite in the assisted living area for a bit. Dining room workers were super nice. But food still wasn't always warm. But they would reheat it for you and do whatever they could to please.
Crane's used to have a good reputation, which is why I chose to go there when released from hospital. But was very disappointed.. I hope I never need to go again to a place like that.

I can't speak to the independent and assisted living, only the rehab center and my advice is stay away, run in the opposite direction! They make extra money on the inpatient (someone not a Cranes Mill resident but a temporary resident for rehab purposes) and while the rehab portion itself is well run, the love in part of it is a mess - doctors don't show up when they say they will, staff can be very surly and downright mean, medication dispensation is erratic, food is hospital grade at best and all at a price of twice what other centers charge. If you're in pain and recovering from an injury and not able to go home just yet - go somewhere else.

2nd Review
Lovely Senior Living community with helpful and kind staff. Cottages and 1 and 2 bedroom units along with many ammenities.

1st Review
A family member has lived here in a 2/2 apartment in the independent section for almost a decade. She is very happy. They have small cottages as well. There is a gym with a pool, 2 restaurants, a small store, a library, a music room, and a lounge area. Crane's offers lots of activities and trips into the city along with actual vacations. The staff is superb, the food is great, and the frounds are beautiful. Located off of Bloomfield Avenue near shops and restaurants. Yogi Berra and his wife lived here until they sailed into heaven. Highly recommend Crane's Mill !!!

If you have a family member or loved one residing at Crane’s Mill, I strongly encourage you to visit them frequently so you can see firsthand the level of care (or lack thereof) they are receiving. During the last year of my grandfather’s life, he was in the skilled (lol) nursing unit and my weekly visits made it extremely clear that the standard of care there was deeply concerning.

I repeatedly witnessed carelessness, indifference, and unprofessional attitudes from multiple staff members which were directed both toward residents and visiting family alike. When I raised concerns about what I was seeing, the responses were dismissive at best. Suspiciously shortly thereafter, my grandfather was transitioned to end-of-life care, and I was left with serious doubts about whether his needs had been adequately addressed in the time leading up to that decision.

The issues weren’t limited to the care staff, the financial side of this business was equally disturbing. My grandparents’ former apartment was left vacant for over 8 years and rather than being sold, was used as a model unit without any authorization from our family, despite it being tied to funds my grandparents had paid. Once again questions were met with dismissive responses. The lack of transparency and accountability was extremely frustrating and added unnecessary stress during an already painful time.

Given what I personally witnessed, I cannot recommend Crane’s Mill. I wish we had known more before encouraging my grandparents to move here on their own accord when their house became too much for them to manage. Please be vigilant, ask questions, and do not assume that positive reviews reflect the genuine experience of those in the higher-care areas of the facility. Or, better yet, don’t go here at all.

I couldnt be more pleased with the attention, concern and caring that I received from the staff at Crane's Mill when I was deciding where to reside at this time in my life, most specifically from Glen and Jay at the outset ,Juan of the maintenance department, Tee in housekeeping, Barbara at the front desk and everyone I encountered during this period. They are all to be commended for doing an excellent job in making me feel welcome. Kudos to Crane's Mill for a job well done. Five Stars
