The skilled nursing staff doesn’t care about your loved ones. The social worker slept during our meeting and the physical therapist ran the meeting. They are way understaffed and undertrained. I had trouble finding employees when my dad needed help. If you can’t afford a private nurse then you will not have a pleasant experience. My dad had dementia and couldn’t feed himself without some assistance. Many times I’d come in his room and he’d have a tray of food sitting on his table. We were always very involved in his care. We lived 7 minutes away and told the staff to call us anytime 24 hours a day if they had any problems. The only call I got was when he fell out of his wheelchair. I asked the staff before I left if they would put him in his recliner because he was going to fall. When he had an emergency the employee didn’t even know the address. My dad was unresponsive and dying because they had neglected his catheter. I noticed there was never any urine in the bag when I went to visit him. I assumed they were emptying it. Nope. It was clogged. I had to call 911. The employee didn’t even know the address. My dad ended up with sepsis, a urinary tract infection, a bladder infection and his kidneys were failing. This was catheter care 101. The way this property looks makes you think they’ll be ok. That’s not the way it turned out for our family. After the Hospital he went into home hospice.

I was very pleased with the care received at Covenant Shores skilled nursing facility. Across the board, the caregivers, nurses, therapists, social workers, physicians and administrators were welcoming, caring and excellent. I can’t say enough good things about them. I would highly recommend this facility if you have a loved one who needs rehab care. As an example, every staff member I came into contact with had a pleasant greeting and a smile. They seemed to really care about residents’ well-being and safety. I will always be grateful for what Covenant Shores did.

My mother received very good care at this Mercer Island facility, and the caregivers were kind, attentive, and supportive. However, the nursing administrator, Rachael, appeared to micromanage staff frequently, which seemed to disrupt the workflow and interfere with the care and therapy teams.

We moved our father from the hospital to Covenant Shores and clearly informed the staff about his serious heart condition, emphasizing the importance of closely monitoring his weight. Over just four days, he gained 14 pounds. We visited every single day and reviewed his chart ourselves. The chart showed no significant weight change until the fourth day, when it suddenly reflected a 10-pound gain. No one contacted us. No one expressed concern. Alarmed, we examined our father ourselves and discovered his feet and legs were massively swollen. This was on a Saturday. When we called the head weekend nurse, he was not at all alarmed. We demanded that a doctor be contacted, but were told that no doctor responded because it was the weekend. To make matters worse, the room smelled like urine, and his medications were disorganized. While weekday care had seemed acceptable, the weekend care was completely unacceptable. Fearing for our father’s life, we called 911 and had him transported back to the emergency room. In the first day alone, doctors removed 7 pounds of excess fluid. That fact speaks for itself. This was outrageous and dangerous negligence. If you place a loved one at Covenant Shores, do not rely on what you are told. Go every day. Look at the charts. Look at their body. Ask questions. Trust your own eyes. Never again will we allow this kind of treatment to happen to our family.
