When my mother was discharged from the hospital, we were told that Choice Health at Home (formerly Alliant Home Health) would be taking over her wound care. Unfortunately, our experience with this agency was extremely disappointing. My mother was on a wound VAC and needed to be seen by a home health nurse at least twice a week. However, we rarely knew when a nurse would be coming, or if anyone would show up at all. Communication with the agency was incredibly frustrating. Calling the main office often resulted in voicemail messages that were never returned, and when we did reach someone, we were frequently transferred to a nurse who was unavailable. One experience that stood out was when a nurse named Kim completed a wound VAC dressing change in less than five minutes. No vital signs were taken, and there was little to no patient assessment. It felt rushed and unprofessional. To be fair, there were some wonderful nurses, including Arleen, who was caring, attentive, and professional. The agency would benefit from having more nurses like her. Obtaining wound care supplies was another ongoing issue. After my mother’s wound VAC was discontinued, getting dressing supplies became a constant struggle. We often had to purchase supplies ourselves because the agency failed to provide them, or we had to rely on the wound clinic to help us obtain what was needed. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this agency. When you trust a home health provider to care for your loved one, you expect reliable, compassionate, and professional care. Unfortunately, the level of service we received did not meet those expectations. Patients and families deserve much better.
