You will not find a nicer place for people who are in need of independent living or dependent. If you do, you’re very lucky! We visited several retirement homes around our area and I also have experience dealing with retirement homes in the past. Not only is the building top notch, the staff is the best. Don’t believe me, ask them how long they have worked there.

My uncle was in there 17 days. The care and food were horrible most of the time. One night he only had a piece of pizza that looked like card board and a cup of fruit. They never gave him the drink he wanted and we always had to have them bring something else. One day he did not get breakfast or lunch. A friend that was there went and asked for him to get some food. Call lights were not answered for hours especially at night. Until we complained he was never got up on the bedside commode and he could do this. Very understaffed at night. I am truly saddened by all this and it makes me feel like crying. He called his daughter on several occasions and she had to come in to help with the urinal. No one would answer the phone at the facility. He had no bath until day 17 when we removed him. He was totally independent before his fall and surgery and he was there to rehab to return home. They used most of his skilled days and he was no closer to being able to return home. They were going to begin charging $500.00 per day on private pay the day we removed him. Other places were much cheaper. This man is sharp as a tack and knows what is going on. He received no Occupational Therapy until a few days before we removed him. Physical Therapy was okay but not enough to get him independent. He was left lying in urine and bowel for 4 hrs one day. His daughter was there. No recliners in any of the rooms we saw. There were some good staff there, but if no family had been around to notice, he would have never returned home. After one week at the place we took him to on day 17, he is now walking over 185 ft with a walker, doing ramps, mostly dressing himself and will be going to his daughters in a few days until a ramp is built at his home.

These people literally tried to kill my mother in law. She was actually an employee of Brookhaven, and she had a surgery that required rehab. They left her soiled in her bed with a Foley catheter in place. She hadn’t eaten in 3 days, and she had no water within reach. Her shade was down so her room was dark and her thermostat was on 80 degrees. They had her door shut because she was screaming for help constantly. They ignored her, and she became delirious from sepsis. She would have been dead if her husband hadn’t come in that day to check on her. I’m an RN, so I understand how unfortunate the care has become in nursing homes, but this is inexcusable. We are pursuing legal counsel about this. Please keep your loved ones away from this facility!

My family's experience from Brookhaven's Independent Living and Assisted Living Community has been outstanding. My mom liked the cleanliness and welcome feeling you get when you arrive. She has enjoyed the company of both the staff and fellow residents. It is such a relief to know that there are people who care, look over her and ensure she get her meds on time! Anytime I have a concern, I just tell the staff and some little Angel takes care of it. Thanks again - so glad you are here for my Mom!

My uncle was checked in here for a 20-day rehab stay. At 13 hours we had to remove him because of the lack of care and substandard treatment. Filthy filthy dirty room. No working television no working phone. They never gave him his mandatory prescription medication. Refuse to allow him to sit in a chair even though they were informed he could not sit in a bed because of his bad back. Took over 2 hours to get a pee bottle. Never send your loved ones to this subpar no care facility. The staff is extremely rude with excuses and problems instead of solutions and results. They literally had an excuse for every request I had for a chair a telephone and a TV for this veteran. I have seen prisoners in a jail treated better than what these patients were in this facility truly sad times. I will be filing a complaint with the State health department against this facility ASAP
