My dad was there over a year before he passed. They talk a good game but leave a lot to be desired when it comes to actually caring. Be careful taking a loved one staying there something like a nice blanket or slippers because the staff will disappear the good stuff and swear they don't have a clue where it could have gone to. For Alabama standards it's probably nice for a nursing home but don't let looks deceive you because I found they have a huge amount of room for improvement.

The search for a place for my dad was exhausting. Certainly no place is like home. But the staff there was more than accommodating, kind hearted, generous, and patient. They engage with the individuals there, and truly care and take pride in their responsibility and care. We are very fortunate that the state has a place for Veterans.

With the exception of a handful of nurses & the pt staff, they really don't care. They don't listen; especially a key player in who makes the decisions. Without specifically putting it into words, my dad didn't last long there, & no contact afterwards except "here is the return of your prorated amount." Very disappointing.

My dad was a resident at Bill Nichols from June 2021 until his death in April 2024 at 92. There are not enough words of praise that I can think of to express how much we appreciate how well he was cared for during his final years. The nurses and attendants, and support state were ALL so caring and attentive to him which was a great comfort to our family! They were so easy to work with and did everything required and then some to provide him with the best environment possible. I HIGHLY recommend Bill Nichols VA Home. Their facility is clean, cheerful and welcoming.

Awesome staff. They are well trained. They have an outstanding rehab. Program. They offer your loved ones many programs including shopping day, fishing, pet days, etc. They do have a lock down unit that keeps the safety of the confused patients. For those who wish to become a CNA , they offer the classes.
