I had an appointment with the nurse at Bethesda to assess my mom's level of care. On the day of the assessment, the sales representative called me to tell me that the nurse had a conflict and she asked me to come in earlier, but I told her I couldn't do so. Instead of a nurse, Summer (the Executive Director) made a "clinical assessment." Summer was dismissive of my mom and me, and I could tell that she was not willing to take my mom as a resident. However, she made me go through the assessment and made me demonstrate a chair transfer from my mom's wheelchair to an office chair. Today, I received a text message from the sales representative who advised that they had rejected my mom as a resident because she required too much care. I did advise Summer that on certain bad days, my mom requires help to eat because she has a rare degenerative neurological disease. She very curtly advised me they could cut food up for her, but would not be able to feed her. If your loved one requires assistance, I would avoid this facility which promotes itself as nonprofit and faith-based. Summer seemed to lack the compassion I would expect from an executive director of a faith-based nonprofit.

Bethesda Gardens is to be commended for their care and nurturing environment from respite care to assisted living! They have an amazing staff that cares for each individual and knows them by name and need. They are focused on caring in a compassionate way. The activities director is amazing and always has the best activities planned for resident and families. The administrative staff is also willing to help in so many ways and ensuring that family and residents are taken care of!
