Seven weeks post op from spine surgery, and twice now they have called the say that my insurance had not authorized it when it already went through and they had already started the service 2x. Once again, I am left without any p.T or o t basically on my own. They're billing department is horrendous! And when you ask for a supervisor, they tell you that they're gonna say the same thing to you instead of saying, let me look into this with the billing department. So customer service is also horrendous! I would not use them again ever.And I do not recommend.

While the bedside care from the individual nurses at At Home Hospice of Mechanicsville was kind and compassionate, the administrative side of the agency was disorganized and added unnecessary stress during an already difficult time. Essential supplies were repeatedly delivered late, and we often had to request basic items ourselves. I was surprised that a standard set of supplies was not provided during the initial visit. More concerning, they mishandled my mother-in-law’s signed DNR paperwork. By the time the error was discovered, she was too ill to sign new documents, creating a stressful legal situation that had to be resolved with her son from across the country. The agency also repeatedly phoned my very ill mother-in-law about arranging a hospital bed while she was still in rehab, even after being told twice to stop contacting her directly. This caused unnecessary distress and forced the family to intervene. Their chaplain also upset the family by instructing us to stay out of the patient’s room rather than offering support during an already painful situation. End-of-life care is always difficult, and no hospice experience will ever be perfect. However, because of repeated administrative failures, poor communication, and the additional stress placed on both the patient and family, I would not choose this agency again. Two final events illustrate the administrative failures of this company: Failure to Provide Essential Comfort Medication: On the final day of my mother-in-law's life, we realized the supply of essential comfort medication was nearly exhausted. We—not the hospice nurse—notified At Home Hospice that morning to ensure a refill was ordered. The medication did not arrive until the following day, left on the doorstep after she had already passed away. The delay in providing necessary medical assistance during her final hours is an unforgivable failure of care. Neglect in Equipment Removal: My mother-in-law passed away on a Friday. It is now Wednesday—five days later—and the hospice equipment, including the bed, commode, and oxygen equipment, remains in our home. We are currently trying to plan a service and prepare for travel, yet we have been forced to chase down equipment companies ourselves because the hospice failed to coordinate the pickup. As of this review, the equipment has still not been removed. Using this company resulted in increased stress and a denial of basic management and medical assistance when it mattered most.

My sister in Henrico, VA received such professional OT and PT care after major back surgeries. Colleen (OT), Sean and Claudine (PT) provided not only excellent choices in exercises and technique, but also optimistic and genuine caring during every session. They always promoted safe and practical methods and systematically helped my sister regain strength and the ability to walk again. I sat through many of the sessions and witnessed firsthand these wonderful professionals. My family is most grateful for their help.

I’m an 84-year old woman who no longer drives. Having access to PT in my apartment was a blessing. The biggest blessing, however, was having a competent, caring therapist like Denise. Denise was very supportive, and tailored my exercises to my abilities. I’m now done with the therapy but still use the written list Denise made for me. I’m much stronger than when I started, and my balance has definitely improved. SO glad I had this experience. At Home Care is lucky to have Denise representing them.

As a family, we cannot imagine going through the end of life journey without all of the marvelous staff from At Home Care and Hospice -- Richmond. Everyone who worked with our Mom truly became her family. This made the last couple of months more normal living, rather than a death journey. We are so incredibly grateful for the care and love that Beth, Susan, Melanie and all others have to Mom. All were also so caring of our family as well. Two years ago, my Dad was in hospice care for 25 hours, and it was equally as caring and professional. We thank everyone who gave so much to both of our parents!
