Words cannot fully capture how grateful I am for my mom’s experience at Artis and for the incredible staff who care for her every day. She has lived here for over a year, and I can honestly say she has found not only a home, but a second family.

My mom is always clean, happy, and exceptionally well cared for. Staff members like Guerline, Holgate, Maggie, Rose and Edith (just to name a few) are truly special. They have a remarkable gift for connecting with and caring for those living with dementia, treating each resident with patience, kindness, and dignity.

The dining experience is another highlight. Jorje always prepares delicious meals and goes out of his way to make residents and their families feel welcome. We especially enjoy the weekly summer BBQs and holiday celebrations that bring everyone together.

Donna consistently goes above and beyond with activities and entertainment. Whether it’s live music, dancing, a petting zoo, gardening, trips to baseball games and local parks, or countless other events, there is always something engaging and meaningful for residents and their families to enjoy.

The property itself is beautiful, clean, and thoughtfully designed, with endless opportunities for safe indoor and outdoor walking. Orlando is always hard at work keeping everything running smoothly—and always with a smile. You might even catch him up on the roof making repairs!

From the moment you walk through the doors, you are welcomed by Kam, who is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to answer questions. Karen keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes, but still takes the time to greet visitors with a warm smile.

Sophia and her nursing team are always available and attentive to residents’ needs. Artis also makes life easier for families by providing access to a physician and podiatrist who visit residents regularly. Kristina, the occupational therapist, is outstanding and focuses on exercises and therapies that truly benefit each resident.

And finally, if you are considering Artis for a loved one, be sure to speak with Rita. She is the sweetest salesperson, genuinely cares about families, and will guide you through the process with compassion and honesty.

Choosing a memory care community was one of the hardest decisions our family made. We were unsuccessful with our first senior living, but then heard about Artis through word of mouth. Artis has given us peace of mind knowing that our mom is safe, engaged, loved, and treated with dignity every day. We are forever grateful to this amazing team.
Artis Senior Living of Chestnut Ridge has been nothing short of a blessing for my Dad and for our family. From the moment he moved in, it was clear that this community is built on compassion, respect, and genuine human connection. The staff treats him with such kindness and dignity that I never have to worry about whether he’s being cared for — I know he is. They take the time to understand who he is as a person, not just a resident, and that makes all the difference in the world.

The environment is warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed to help residents feel safe, engaged, and at home. My Dad has truly thrived there, and seeing him comfortable, active, and smiling again has meant the world to me.

I have not met a staff member who is not smiling and happy to be working there. This definitely carries over to the residents and how they feel. When you first walk in you are greeted by the nicest people at the front desk. From there you enter the residents world, and it truly is their world.

My Dad would not be as active if he were still at home. The things I have seen him do while at Artis is beyond belief. I have never seen him do a puzzle, paint pictures, participate in group yoga, this is just not something he would be doing. But he has integrated so well that this is his new life now and I really can't be happier.

For all these activities I have to give a very special shout‑out to Donna, the Activity Director, who is, in my opinion, the absolute best. Her energy, creativity, and dedication are unmatched. There is always something going on — crafts, music, games, themed events, you name it — and she makes sure every resident feels included and valued. My Dad lights up when he talks about the activities, and that joy is a direct reflection of the effort Donna puts in every single day. She is a true gem and an irreplaceable part of what makes Artis so exceptional.

If you’re looking for a place where your loved one will be treated with genuine care, kept engaged, and surrounded by people who truly love what they do, Artis Senior Living of Chestnut Ridge is that place. They have exceeded every expectation, and I am deeply grateful for the way they’ve cared for my Dad.
Update: still little communication and response from management. Residents still freely go in and out of my mother’s. Room and steal or wake her at 1am and get into bed with her. Ve repeatedly asked them to lock her door. No response! Poor management and training of care staff. Get a camera for your family members room.

My mother has been there about 9 months. She has mild dementia and still enjoys activities, socializing and learning. Overall, this is a good move for her. Her room is small but she has a private bath and comfortable bed. The room is always clean, occasionally messy when laundry gets dumped or stacks up. For the most part the whole place is clean and smells normal (I’ve visited other assisted living that are horrible).;

Pros: Donna the activity director is a gem. The activities offer mental stimulation, engage everyone, provide socialization and never just routine. Orlando is amazing and always helpful. Cam and Annette are friendly and welcoming even when I fly in late for a visit as they are leaving. Jorge makes great food (but sometimes aides dish out too much for my petite mom-I guess a good problem but I think they are working on it). Nurses helpful and friendly. Cleaning staff amazing. Rita in life strategy very friendly and helpful.

Cons: Management. No one returns call or emails when issues arise. No one ever even acknowledges receiving an email. I have a camera in my mom’s room and there are residents that constantly throughout the night are walking in, turning lights on -waking her up-all night long. I have repeatedly asked them to lock her door when she goes to bed. Still after 9 months no action, no acknowledgement of this and other simple requests. My mother has complained about lack of privacy and I keep trying to them to let her lock the door. My mother was also displaying pneumonia symptoms but nurses kept calling and saying she is fine no change. Very frustrating as I can hear it in her extremely hoarse voice and her coughing. I asked management and again no response no acknowledgement of my email. There is No ED there. Corporate refuses to respond to emails. Very frustrating especially when I am across the country and only able to visit every 6-10 weeks. I need communication. I can see what is happening - camera in her room.

This morning some strange man was in my mother’s room and in her bed. I repeatedly asked that they lock her door if she is not there but they continue to ignore my requests. Ridiculous. Is it safe?
Ever since my dad moved into Artis, I’ve seen such a big difference in him. One of the most amazing things has been his activity. He’s actually walking more and even standing up straighter. It’s been really incredible to see. I honestly think the whole environment plays a role in that. There’s just something about the way everything is set up and how the team supports him day-to-day.
I also have to give a huge shoutout to the care team they’re so awesome. So kind, so attentive, and you can tell they really care. And every time I come to visit, everyone is just so friendly and welcoming. It makes such a difference. I’m really grateful he’s here.
My mother started at Artis at the end of December '25. Everyone from Rita in admissions and Charlene the Executive Director made the transition from the nursing home to the facility smooth and problem free. All of the employees at Artis go above and beyond to keep the residents happy. Kam the receptionist is always pleasant when you come in. Donna in Life Enrichment always makes sure that my mother is able to attend activities that are suited for her. Julie and her two assistants make physical therapy a part of her day. Ariel and Jorge with kitchen services make sure that my mother's special diet is adhered to. The whole staff is geared to making her stay as pleasant as possible. My mother being at Artis has provided a sense of comfort as we know that she is being cared for in a way that is no longer possible for us any longer. The facility is always clean, bright and happy. The parking is also good. I recommend Artis Chestnut Ridge to anyone whose loved one has memory issues.
Bruce Rivers
The longer my mother, Catherine Jones, is at Artis the more I appreciate the people who work here. I would like to acknowledge Karen, Director Business Services, Eliza, Life Enrichment Assistant, Care Partners Rose, Charles Pierre, Lupe, Krystina & Sue of Occupational Therapy, Nurses Sophie, Raji, Yves, Veronica Director Environmental Housekeeping, Waylande, PCA, Bya Bah LPN, Arias & Joseph, Cooks, Tania & Rosa, hairdressers. There are more people who I might not have gotten to but rest assured everyone at Artis only have one thing in mind, the care & comfort of the residents. I am so glad that we have found Artis.
Bruce Rivers
