Amedisys Hospice Care in Bluefield, West Virginia provides specialized hospice care for individuals facing terminal illness. Rather than curative treatment, the focus is on pain and symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, and assistance for families and caregivers. The care team works with patients and their primary caregivers to develop personalized plans that address individual needs and goals.
Services offered include nursing care, medication management, hospice aide support for activities of daily living, social work and counseling, chaplain services, and volunteer companionship. A hospice nurse visits regularly to assess the patient, administer medications, and coordinate care. The team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to support patients and families throughout the end-of-life journey.
The hospice team also provides specialized support for specific conditions. For dementia patients, care focuses on preserving quality of life through pain management and creating a safe, relaxed environment. For end-stage heart failure patients, the team manages symptoms, reduces hospitalizations, and provides education to improve patient confidence. Amedisys participates in the We Honor Veterans program to address veterans' unique end-of-life needs.
Family support extends beyond the patient's care. Social workers help with end-of-life conversations and grief counseling, while trained volunteers offer companionship and practical assistance. After a patient's passing, families can receive up to one year of bereavement support and guidance from trained counselors, with both virtual and in-person support groups available.
Hospice services are typically covered 100% by Medicare Part A, Medicaid in most states, and many private or managed care insurance plans. Covered expenses include medications, equipment, and supplies related to the terminal illness.

From beginning to end, my dad and family were provided the absolute best care ❤. I cannot recommend Amedisys enough. Every person we had contact with went above and beyond for our family during such a difficult time. It was important for me to provide my dad with compassionate care while transitioning.

They are always there to answer questions and keep you informed of everything going on with your loved one. Dr Bowmen is the best. She really cares your loved one is on good hands .

Everyone was very kind and compassionate. Dr. Bowman made sure she, the patient, had the meds available to keep her comfortable and the nurse made sure she was medicated promptly upon request. Both the physician and nurse kept the family informed about any new orders or changes in treatments or therapies.
