My name is Florence, and I am a 95 year old resident at Allegro Senior Living in Harrington Park, New Jersey. Two years ago, I reluctantly left Florida with my significant other, Bill, to live closer to my family up North. In Florida , we had an active social life , playing cards, going to the movies, and eating out most nights with friends. We had fun and felt young. With lots of persuasion from our families, we moved to Allegro. Never did we expect to continue having such an active life. But we haven’t slowed down one bit since moving here. Here’s why:

The building is beautiful. We feel like we are living in a lovely hotel. Our two- bedroom apartment is filled with all our colorful paintings and furniture from Florida. It feels like home.

The activities planned by Laura, the Lifestyle director and Cindy, her assistant , are interesting and creative. They keep us busy and informed. Videos from the Metropolitan Opera are shown twice a month , preceded by a lecture from a former opera singer. Our weekly current events discussions, hosted by Bob, keep us well informed about politics.

I play bridge twice a week, learned mahjong again after 50 years. I even go with Bill to the sports discussions- a topic that held little interest for me previously. Recently, a lecture on artificial intelligence was added to our busy program schedule.

I am so busy that I cannot attend many of the other activities, such as bingo, jeopardy, crossword challenges, and trivia. Book lovers will appreciate our book club discussions. I rarely have time for the wonderful exercise classes, such as yoga and stretching etc.

Cathy, the Independent Resident Relations Director, made our move to Allegro easy. She measured the apartment walls before we moved in to help me figure out where my furniture might fit in. If you have any problems go to her and everything will be solved.

My partner, Bill, and I even gave up our two cars. No need for car insurance, repairs, or inspections. Laura really takes the time to make sure there is transportation for our doctor’s appointments. Sam and Mike, our transportation drivers are so attentive and caring, helping those in need get into the car, or small bus, when taking us to our appointments.

Our apartment is cleaned weekly, and the only “work” I do in the apartment is our laundry. We are so spoiled!

Sometimes we feel like eating in our apartment - we just want to eat together. One call to Doris, Dan or others at the front reception desk, and our dinner is promptly delivered to us- room service!

In Florida, we had developed wonderful relationships with lots of people. We didn’t think that could happen again- but it did! Several friends have cars , and we go out for lunch every week. Also, dinner and lunch are often with our families. We have been to so many terrific restaurants in Bergen County.

Bill, who was less than enthusiastic about moving to Allegro, often tells me, “Thank you, Florence”.
Don’t hesitate to leave your home and live at allegro. It has been a wonderful experience for both of us.

My parents have been in assisted living at Allegro for over a year, and I've been consistently impressed. I looked at a couple of other places for my parents. Allegro just felt like the perfect fit and it has been in every way! For starters, the grounds by the reservoir are beautiful, and it's not just a nice view, it's a space they actually enjoy walking and spending time in. (We actually had our family pictures taken there this Thanksgiving. ) The care and communication are excellent. I can reach out to any staff member with a question and get a quick, helpful response. I am amazed at how the entire staff (front desk, administration, nursing, daily activities & dining) knows each resident by name and understands all of their individual needs. That personal touch shows every day. My parents are happy, healthy, and have made great friends. There's a genuine sense of community with regular activities that keep them engaged. The food in the dining room is always different and delicious. The dining staff is patient and kind. Even beyond my parents' individual care, what stands out is the welcoming atmosphere for families. Since we no longer have our old family home, Allegro has truly become that place for us, warm, supportive, and full of heart.

We moved my mother into Allegro in May 2026 - her house became too much to manage alone and Allegro provides so much "life" for her. Over the weeks she has adapted to the community, making friends everywhere. She is getting into participating with classes and utilizing the physical therapy services available. Family visits and we all go for walks on the property, play in the pool, play games and there is plenty of room for us to sit and chat on a sunny porch or patio. Mom is adjusting, and we are too, but so far this has been a great choice for Mom's safety, health and happiness. Recommend!

My mom has been in Allegro from day 1 when they first opened due to the passing of my father . She never complains about anything and she certainly would let me know if there was any issues . Everyone is wonderful the staff attentive and very helpful . My family is so happy that mom is somewhere she enjoys and at 92 still making new friends .

Choosing the right assisted living facility for a loved one is a significant decision, and finding a place that offers both comfort and comprehensive care is paramount. My mother moved into Allegro Senior Living in August 2024, and after visiting six others in the area, this facility stands out as by far the most impressive.

The facility provides a vibrant lifestyle enriched with diverse activities that have truly engaged my mother. She has become an enthusiastic participant in various classes, thanks to the dedication of staff members like Laura and Cynthia, who bring warmth and professionalism to their roles. The nursing staff complements this environment with their patience and kindness, ensuring residents receive compassionate care tailored to their needs.

Dining here is a delight, with comprehensive menus that cater to a wide range of tastes, served in multiple dining rooms according to residents’ living areas. The servers are notably patient and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. Daily social events, such as the 3:30 pm "happy hour" following Bingo or other afternoon activities, foster community spirit and provide enjoyable opportunities for socializing. Additionally, the facility offers nightly movie screenings in its theater and shopping trips with and a thoughtful and considerate driver, all designed to enrich residents' lives.

My mother’s lovely one-bedroom apartment offers privacy and comfort, maintained impeccably by an excellent cleaning and maintenance team. Knowing she is content, safe, and well cared for when she needs future services brings me immense peace of mind.
