TL;DR: After nearly 3 years of care for Mom – and a little for Dad – we’ve had about 10+ attempts to find a carer fit. And we have found her – but only because of the willingness of Essa & Sabrina to find the “right” person, not just a “person”.

If you are looking for advice in finding the right people to care for your loved one – and a price you can afford, read this. I and my siblings are you, and we’re sharing our experience.

Both parents are home, comfortable, and have physical and growing memory issues to deal with. They’ve been married over 65 years and are utterly inseparable. Neither are willing to leave home, and the differences of their conditions would separate them if we tried. We won’t. It’s a pretty common wish. So home care is a must. And, at their age, they have their wants and needs – and have earned them.

We’ve been through a few local agencies. Beyond being expensive, we’ve found them less than accommodating in needs for shift hours. More importantly, there seemed to be very little consideration in placement – sending anyone free, whether subbing or replacing.

*THIS IS KEY* The hardest thing is finding someone who jibes with your person/people. Your peeps deserve to spend their days with someone they get along and are comfortable with. That’s not a given – and not a slight on anyone who doesn’t fit. Some people are loud, some are quiet. Some like to do things one way, some will work with their way. Can be an outstanding provider – but not a match. (And some patients/carers will adapt; others will not.) It’s an extremely difficult balance (esp if there are two care people.) As they say, there is someone for everyone.

This is where A Place For Home excels FAR beyond any of our other providers we have worked with. Not every provider “worked” – not their or provider’s fault. Just not a fit. So they took feedback, tried again. A couple times (I put that on my parents, not APFH.) And they handled every shift quickly and smoothly.

With the other companies, we were just sent the next on the list. There was no discussion.

Not the case with APFH. We discussed, tweaked needs. They followed up regularly to see what worked.

And now, we have someone we are so thankful to have for my parents. They all love each other and my parents are superbly cared for. Lynne (our amazing carer) keeps us posted whenever necessary. But my measure is this: Mom and Dad are SO HAPPY after 2+ years trying to find the right fit – but a fraction of that under APFH. Thank you, Essa & Sabrina!

Essa, the co-owner of A Place At Home is very considerate of one’s needs and makes great effort to accommodate them. It is a very responsive and professional and caring home aide service agency. Their caregivers are also quality people.

Jill, our aide, went above and beyond her duties and helped my father through a rough time in his life. The owner of the company Essa was extremely accommodating to meeting our needs. In a nutshell, I highly recommend working with this agency.

A Place At Home - Eatontown provided home health aides for my cousin for a month after she was released from the hospital after a fall. Owners Essa and Sabrina are organized, helpful and easy to work with as well as being genuinely good people. They were flexible when hours needed to be adjusted and were willing to switch to a different aide when there was a bad fit. They were open to suggestions and easy to communicate with. I also found their pricing to be very reasonable. They billed on a current basis and did not require a large upfront deposit like other agencies we interviewed. I would highly recommend them and would use them again should a need arise.
