Description

Family-Focused Senior Care

Temporary Visitor Restrictions

For the health of our patients, visitors, health care providers and communities, we ask that people do not visit our facilities, including senior services and long-term care locations. For mother/baby and pediatric patients, visitors are limited to a designated partner or primary caretaker/guardian (only one at a time). Exceptions will be considered based on end-of-life situations or when a visitor is essential for the patient's emotional well-being and care.

We recognize that this can be disappointing to our visitors, patients and residents, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you or your family. The health of you and our patients/residents is our top priority.

Mercy Health West Park offers the full spectrum of senior care and rehabilitation. This commitment to the needs of seniors makes us your best choice for both independent living and higher levels of care.

Nursing Care

Mercy Health West Park provides 24-hour nursing care on site, which can make transitioning through levels of care easier on you and your family. You continue to be an important part of the community you call home, where you’ve built friendships, yet can receive appropriate care if your needs should change.

Alzheimer's Care

People with Alzheimer's disease (and related dementias) can enjoy a higher quality of life through DaySTAE activities. DaySTAE engages minds and bodies to help maintain mental capacity and enrich lives. People in many stages of dementia enjoy and benefit from this program, which is available only for residents of Mercy Health West Park.

Life Enrichment for People with Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's disease presents a variety of cognitive and behavioral challenges. DaySTAE (Success Through Arts and Environment) helps people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) maintain mental function and reduce related difficulties. People at many stages of dementia can enjoy DaySTAE activities and experience success.

DaySTAE activities

Activities in the program are carefully chosen to hold participants attention and promote positive feelings. We use art, music and storytelling to engage participants, helping them maintain cognitive and other functions.

•    TimeSlips is an activity that replaces the need to remember stories with encouragement to imagine them. Our facilitator asks open-ended questions to guide storytelling, and responses are woven together into a story. Participants enjoy the stories and the feeling of success gained in contributing to them.
•    Memories in the Making allows participants in early to middle stages of dementia to recover and communicate memories through painting and drawing. They enjoy the creative process and the ability to express feelings associated with their memories.
•    Drumming circles are an empowering and spiritual experience that allows participants to feel and share their potential through rhythm. They share and explore feelings and connect with their most basic selves, regardless of their level of functional ability.
•    Improvisational theater lets participants use props and costumes to stimulate expression through theater. Each person builds on the dramatic activities of the others, encouraging them to experience their feelings at the moment.
•    Dance combines creative expression with physical movement as participants feel the music and respond to it. This enhances their experience of themselves and their own creativity.

Benefits of DaySTAE

DaySTAE activities reduce daily stress, activate participants minds and allow them to experience their feelings and creativity. This helps them maintain cognitive abilities and social skills. Research demonstrates that DaySTAE achieves positive outcomes, such as:

•    reduced agitation
•    reduced number of chair alarms
•    improved behavior
•    maintained mental capacity and function
