Yakima Valley School

Yakima Valley School is a 64-bed certified nursing facility in Selah, Washington, providing 24/7 care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The facility is known for its clinical and therapeutic programs, including respite services, all designed to be individualized and maximize residents' independence.

The community offers quality medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and psychiatric services. Telehealth services increase access to medical and psychiatric expertise. Residents live in cottages with bedrooms and living rooms featuring specially designed amenities. The Administration Building houses administrative offices, kitchen and laundry departments, an apartment for visiting families, and an indoor hub for resident activities.

Yakima Valley School encourages active lifestyles through community activities such as picnics, concerts in the park, athletic events, shopping, and swimming. Residents also participate in community festivals and display their art at events each May. Over 200 professional staff members support residents with dignity, emphasizing choice and self-determination in all aspects of care.

The facility is recognized as a leader in respite care, allowing parents and guardians caring for a loved one at home to have time away while their family member receives support in a safe environment. Respite services are requested through DSHS case managers, and the facility works directly with families through consent paperwork, medical record gathering, and conference calls to learn about each individual.

Yakima Valley School serves people in crisis who have lost community placements or whose families face emergencies. These residents, who may have behavioral challenges or intensive medical needs, have access to all campus services including additional psychiatric services.
