Warning to Families: Unresolved $4,000 Refund and Zero Communication I am writing this review to warn other families about the unethical business practices we have experienced with Valiente Senior Living and its owner, Sohail Syed. My father-in-law moved into this facility having prepaid for the full month plus the remaining days of his move-in month. Tragically and unexpectedly, he passed away just two weeks and one day after his move-in date. On the day of his death following the removal, the director at the time, Stephen Crowell, personally assured us that a refund of $4,000 for the unused days would be issued "very soon." That was several months ago. Since then, we have experienced a complete lack of integrity: * Broken Promises: We were initially told the owner, Sohail Syed, handles all refunds and that it would take "a few weeks." * Total Ghosting: After management changed hands, our dozen-plus calls and texts went completely ignored by Melissa Breazile and Mr. Syed. Even a handwritten note delivered to the facility went unacknowledged. * Legal Defiance: Our estate attorney has also reached out, and the facility continues to remain silent. Reading other reviews, it is clear we are not the only family being taken advantage of in this way. It appears Mr. Syed has no intention of honoring financial agreements or returning funds that rightfully belong to grieving families. If there are other families currently struggling to collect owed monies from this facility, I am interested in connecting to see if a group can be formed to pursue collective action. This is a predatory way to treat families during their most vulnerable moments. For those who have experienced the same treatment, please consider taking additional action—here are a few additional avenues to get the word out: * Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC): Since they regulate assisted living facilities, you can file a complaint regarding the facility's business practices. * Better Business Bureau (BBB): While not a legal entity, a formal complaint here often triggers a response from ownership to protect their public rating. * Texas Attorney General: You can file a consumer protection complaint regarding the withheld refund and the pattern of behavior identified in other reviews.

Update…. it is going on two years now that my mom has been at Valiente. My stepdad has been there for over a year and we are so very pleased. Malissa who is the Manager of the Care Givers is AMAZING. She is very organized and make sure that the caregivers are giving the best care to all of the residence. She also is very quick to respond if I ever have a question or concern.

My Mom moved into Valiente Care Home 4 months ago. We have been very happy with the care she is being given, the cleanliness and the over all staff. This was a huge decision for our family to make. One that we did not take lightly and thought about for a very long time. As a family, we can truly say we have seen many changes in my mom since she became a resident. Positive changes. She is happy and has made some friends. The atmosphere is very family orientated. The facility is set up like a home and does not feel institutional at all. The meals are prepared with fresh ingredients, which is really nice. I am very happy that we made this decision. We feel like my mom is in a safe place and getting good care.

Update: After 2 plus years here we are now working with Devotion Hospice. This Hospice group is by far the best. We have used 2 other groups and I would not recommend any other group except Devotion Hospice. Don't be fooled or coerced into using anyone else! As a family you have a choice. And remember anyone can say they are good. Talk to people/families who have used them before. If you are looking for assisted living, Valiente is as good a place as any. The current caregiving staff managed by Melissa, treat all residents like family members. They are the best group by far. I don’t have enough good words to say about Melissa. Her compassion and care are unparalleled. Very relaxed atmosphere in a country setting. We put my aunt here several years ago and it has been as good place as any for her. It has had its up and downs, but we know she is being taken care of by the caregiving staff and Devotion Hospice who come every week. Do your homework. Listen to your instincts.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the care and support my dad receives at Valiente. As someone living with Alzheimer’s, finding a place that truly understands and caters to his needs was a top priority for me. From the very first visit, we were welcomed with open arms, and I could immediately sense the warmth and compassion of the staff. What stands out most is the genuine care the staff provides. They take the time to get to know each resident personally, ensuring that their individual needs and preferences are met. It's heartwarming to see how they treat my dad with respect and kindness, making him feel valued every day. I feel peace of mind knowing that my dad is in such a nurturing environment. The community here is truly special, and I can wholeheartedly recommend Valiente to anyone looking for a loving and supportive place for their loved ones. Thank you for making this journey a positive one for both my dad and our family!
