Bringing my 90-year-old mother and 94-year-old father to The Village at Waterman Lake for a two-week stay was something I approached with a tremendous amount of anxiety. As their caretaker, they have not stayed anywhere without me in the last four years, and I was deeply nervous about how this experience would go for them.

What we found at The Village at Waterman Lake was far beyond anything I could have hoped for.

From the moment they arrived, the staff created an environment that was not only safe, but joyful, peaceful, and full of genuine love and kindness. Every day, staff members greeted my parents warmly, hugged them, checked on them, and treated them like family rather than residents. It was obvious that the care and compassion shown there went far beyond job descriptions.

My father, at 94 years old, truly came alive during his stay. I watched him become rejuvenated and engaged with life again in a way I had not seen in a long time. My mother initially thought of the stay as simply a “vacation,” but it became so much more meaningful for her as well. She made friends, attended art classes, listened to live music every day, and became excited about participating in activities again.

One of the most beautiful outcomes of their stay was that they attended a bone-building exercise class while there, enjoyed it so much, and were inspired to join our local senior center after returning home so they could continue attending similar classes twice a week.

As a caregiver, there are very few moments when you can truly exhale and trust others with the people you love most. The Village at Waterman Lake gave me that gift. I cannot express enough gratitude for the love, dignity, joy, and sense of community they gave to my parents.

Thank you for creating such a beautiful place for seniors to not just live, but truly thrive.

When our mother passed away, Dad was left alone in their house where he had lived his entire life. Very shortly thereafter he admitted that he was lonely, and it was a great relief to us that he agreed to visit, and move into, The Village at Waterman Lake. Despite battling a terminal illness, he thrived in his new surroundings, making new friends, participating in group activities and trips, and becoming more outgoing than we ever imagined he could be. He loved his new home and the people there. He had his two cats for companionship. And it was a tremendous relief to us, knowing that he was happy and surrounded by caring people who he interacted with on a daily basis. When Dad passed away, we were able to take solace in the knowledge that his last two years were not lonely ones. Dad made the most of his final days, and it was made possible by the support of everyone at The Village.
N & C Turnquist

The care my mom received in the assisted living was excellent. From the nurse, to the care givers and even the cleaning crew, were caring and compassionate. Everything was clean and orderly. I would highly recommend. My mom was very happy there.

My parents, unfortunately, were both experiencing health issues when we made the decision to move them up here from North Carolina to be closer to me. I visited several Independent Living homes and the Village was by far the best. It's set on top of a hill overlooking Waterman lake which is breathtaking from spring through fall.

The facility is immaculate and the staff goes out of their way to make sure the residents have the resources they need. One of the first things I noticed when my parents moved in was how friendly and welcoming the other residents are. You can tell people enjoy being there, and my parents did too for their short time there.

Their health deteriorated faster than any of us expected and they both needed to be moved quickly into the nursing home. If you meet Moriah, the general manager, (or house mom as my parents called her), she is always dressed to the nines with flawless make-up and four inch heels. When my dad needed to be moved to the nursing home, I noticed she had swapped out her skirt and heels for jeans and sneakers. She and two of the facility nurses pushed my dad down to the nursing home in a rolling recliner to make sure he could be moved comfortably and safely. She did the same for my mom when it was her turn. Moriah set-up the move in days and pushed my mom's wheelchair, this time in her heels, to her new room.

If my parents had still been in North Carolina when their health crashed, or in a less accommodating facility, I don't know what I would have done.

Every staff member in that place from the top to the bottom did what they needed to do to take care of my parents, and that is an invaluable service when you are dealing with aging loved ones.
