Some years ago, a case worker at the hospital handed us a list and there was Society House's info practically cut off on the bottom of the page. But there was something that told me to check it out, we unfortunately needed to find a place for my aunt and quick. After a tour and the review of finances, I knew in my heart, this was the place for Barbara. Once she moved in and accepted the reality of her new arrangements, it was no time before she was involved in everything Society House has to offer, crafts, music, outings to the library, communion service, holiday celebrations and the best birthday dinners for each of their residents. This is not a facility, it is a community. A home where these amazing folks that have worked hard yet can no longer take care of themselves, come to live their best years. Barbara's health did decline over the years, but you never saw it, she was always dressed, her hair taken care of by the hairdresser, her nails always another crazy color that she would love showing off to everyone. Her abilities may have been disappearing but her smile never did. Barbara passed just a few short weeks ago and the outpouring of love and support from the staff at Society House was a stabilizing force in my life. They were alert and aware of any changes and even though I know there wasn't anything else we could have done. They lived up to the promise that Barbara would have a home until the very end. These decisions we make for our loved ones aren't easy, but Society House certainly was an easy one.

When my husband’s medical condition prevented him from living independently, I researched facilities extensively. An unannounced tour of Society House made my decision. What I had to have was a place of caring where he wasn’t just a ‘patient’, a comfortable, home like atmosphere, a low ratio of caregiver to resident, healthy and generous food, cleanliness of both residents and facility, and an ease of access for family and visitors. Society House was so much more. Ed and Kristine are wonderful people. There is no chain of telephone calls or wait time to speak to an administrator if one has a question or concern. They know each resident and their needs. It feels like family when speaking with them. Ed has gone over and beyond to help our family and I know his efforts are from his heart. I also must mention his caregiver, Brenda, who is just wonderful. I wholeheartedly recommend Society House.

Where to begin? My dad had the GREAT fortune of living at Society House for the last four months of his life, and despite his significant physical health issues, it was the BEST time of the prior seven years. We only wish he had made the decision years before; his quality of life, sense of purpose and general outlook all brightened when he entered the warm, caring environment at Society House. At 94, having lost all of his close friends, he isolated himself in his home (where he lived alone, and managed quite well). His socialization outside of a few family members was nil. At Society House he became “re-socialized,” and once again blossomed. The Society House is an absolute GODSEND to a certain segment of the aging population: those who are struggling physically, but are sound of mind and engaged mentally and don’t need constant medical care. What we discovered in those last four months of our dad’s life was THE MOST kind and compassionate family (the staff), who cared for him like a cherished member of their own. My brother and I could never find adequate words to describe the amazing qualities of Society House. Their expert care and supervision brought safety to our father and peace of mind to us at a moment when his strength and ability to navigate his home safely failed. They looked after him and assisted with his movement without ever intruding on his pride or independence. They offered a spec for physical therapists to work with him, and full wheelchair accessible spaces to aid in his movement about the house. They cleaned his spacious room, did his laundry and had his hair cut in house as needed. Best of all, they succeeded in pleasing his culinary tastes with 3 delicious home-cooked and served meals a day! When my dad’s final moments came, the entire family at Society Hkuse was there to grieve with us and offer support to both our father and our entire family. They attended his small memorial service, and we have kept in touch since his death last year. I simply cannot say enough good things about Ed and his family - and the entire experience at Society House. The model that Ed and his team is developing for elder care is simply remarkable. Their attentiveness, understanding and integration of the residents’ families is meticulous and I can only hope that if I were to need elder care I could receive the extraordinarily high level of service that our dad received at Society House in Livingston. Is it affordable? ABSOLUTELY. We would never have had our dad transition from his own home if 60+ years to a nursing home or assisted living. However, what Society House offered him was a REAL HOME - akin to a high-end Bed-and-Breakfast - at a fraction of the price of a nursing home or assisted living facility. The simple month-to-month fee gave him the peace of mind to know he wouldn’t go broke in his final year. This is the most incredible place for anyone seeking independent living with dignified supervision for their aging loved ones. Bravo - and thank you, Society House for treating our dad with the love and care he deserved! Chuck Granata

I stumbled across the society house in my hunt for the placement of my aging aunt. I knew instantly as I walk through the double doors and greeted by the most outstanding staff. From the beautiful layout to the staff my very fussy aunt absolutely adored her time there. I can recall having picked her up on several occasions where she could not wait to get back there for 5:00 dinner with her new housemates. I can only say wonderful things and highly recommend for anyone who wants that extra warm environment that never made you feel guilty placing your loved one in someone else's care. If you're looking for a family environment, this is the place for you.
I can't think of a better place.
Ed, Kristine, and Brenda and all the rest thank you for making my aunts end of life an enjoyable experience.

The Society House is a warm and caring assisted and independent living home with excellent staff, amenities, and food. The home is clean and everything is organized. My dad was there a short time before passing away and I will always be grateful for how “at home” he felt with everyone there. I highly recommend you check out TSH before looking at larger facilities!
