I cannot recommend The Shores of Lake Phalen Memory Care based on my family's experience.<br><br>As the legal guardian of my mother, who has advanced Alzheimer's disease and requires extensive assistance with daily care, I observed repeated concerns regarding her supervision, personal care, communication, and the facility's response when issues were raised.<br><br>During her residency, there were multiple incidents involving missing personal belongings, including sentimental jewelry that was never recovered. I also documented concerns about hygiene, clothing management, and overall attention to her individual needs. On several occasions, I found that issues I reported required repeated follow-up before receiving a response.<br><br>What was most disappointing was the lack of transparency and accountability. Rather than providing clear answers and corrective actions when concerns were raised, communication often felt defensive or dismissive. Families entrust memory care providers with the safety, dignity, and well-being of vulnerable loved ones. In my experience, that trust was not consistently earned.<br><br>Every family's situation is different, but I would strongly encourage anyone considering this facility to ask detailed questions about staffing levels, supervision practices, incident reporting, personal property protections, and how concerns from families are investigated and resolved.

I am extremely disappointed with the care my loved one received while living in this memory care. Our family trusted the staff to provide compassionate, attentive care, but unfortunately that was not our experience.<br>Throughout her stay, we witnessed elder neglect and abuse. Basic needs were not met, and at times staff were not paying attention to the residents. It was heartbreaking to see my loved one not receive the level of care, dignity, and respect that every resident should be getting.<br>Memory care residents are very vulnerable individuals, and my loved one's wedding rings were stolen directly off her finger - thankfully the detective was able to track down the rings at a local pawn shop! How disgusting to think that she was taken advantage of because of her disease. No matter how much we advocated for care of my loved one her needs were not met. We had multiple care conferences expressing our concerns and instead of feeling reassured, we were left frustrated, concerned and constantly worried about her.<br>Based on our experience, I would never recommend this facility to families looking for memory care. I strongly encourage anyone considering this facility to ask detailed questions (which you'll never get answers to), visit DAILY, and observe the level of care being provided.

This is a memory care center. We visited our relative there for the first time. Nice location. Easy intake process. Would have appreciated a orientation to the place.

Don't be fooled by the beautiful building and lower price. Ask about the care your loved one would receive here. They have a lot of staff turnover and agency staff instead of regular staff. Relationships are not made. Aides are often on their phones in common areas. Medications are not administered as prescribed or ordered at all. If you visit Assisted Living places, go to several activities and ask multiple residents and family members about their experiences directly. The Corp office is out of Dallas, TX. They don't visit.
