My Mom is currently staying at the Laurels. I had previously given them a very good review. However, since my Mother has been transferred to the Long Term Care wing, her care has gotten very, very poor. There are good people here, but the people who are directly in charge (nurses) are dropping the ball constantly. I have been lied to too many times to count. I have to constantly check to see if she is getting what she needs. She is not one to complain, or speak loudly. She is almost blind, pretty much deaf, and not mobile. Today was the last straw for me. After going to visit her and seeing her in visible (stomach)pain, (which had been going on for two days ) all I could get out of her a.m. nurse were some Tums. They did nothing for her. I asked for something stronger and was told “We can’t give her anything because we already gave her Tums.” WHAT??? And because I had already gotten Hospice involved, due to her lack of care, I had to call them to get a stronger med ordered. When I called 4.5 hours later to see if she’d been given this med, the nurse in charge of her said “No, it is PRN.” Meaning as needed. Well, why do you think it was ordered??? I told her to go down and ask my Mother while I’m on the phone if her stomach hurts. She would not do that. But when she got back on the phone, she was all too ready to make sure she got this med, which she clearly needed, badly! For all I know, she could have a bowel obstruction, or worse. My Mother does not scream and yell. She will suffer in silence. A good nurse would recognize that it was not normal for her to be in her pajamas curled up in a fetal position. And for God’s sake, since you’ve been told MULTIPLE times that she is in pain, ASK HER if she’s in pain!!! She couldn’t even visit with us today, her pain was so bad, and they just left her there to suffer! Not only that, they lost almost all of her clothing, AND her glasses. I fear to think what would be going on if I weren’t advocating for her. Many times I have went to visit and she was very thirsty, and no water even close to her bed. There is no excuse for this! If you have a loved one going to this facility, especially long term care, I urge you to stay with them whenever you can, and advocate for them fiercely!
