My mom was discharged from rehab after a difficult hospitalization and our family was unable to care for her at home. We were emotionally exhausted trying to figure out the next step, and honestly, my mom was resistant to the idea of senior living. We originally chose Talamore’s Enhanced Care program as a short-term respite stay while she regained her strength and confidence. From the moment she arrived, everything changed. The staff treated my mom with so much dignity and patience during a very vulnerable time in her life. They listened to her needs while also sensitively encouraging her independence. This meant a lot to me and my siblings. What surprised us most was how quickly she connected with the other residents. Within weeks, she had new friendships, dining companions, and was attending activities on her won without having to be asked. For the first time in years, she wasn’t isolated or alone in her house after my dad passed away several years ago. What was supposed to be temporary slowly became the place she truly felt at home. One day she told me, “I don’t want to leave. I’m happy here.” As her daughter, those words meant everything. Instead of worrying constantly about her safety, loneliness, or whether she was eating and taking care of herself, I now know she is surrounded by caring staff and peers of her own. I truly believe my dad would be so relieved and happy knowing my mom is no longer alone and has found joy again. Talamore gave our family far more than supportive care — they gave my mom her smile back.
