Terrance services housekeeping and laundry. He honors his word and does all he can to provide excellent service to residents and families. Sterling Care has an awesome activities coordinator and team. They are accommodating to residents and guests, activities are enjoyable, and you anticipate attending the next activities. Thank you Team! I give them a five-star!

Update- I was contacted by the facility administrator and was able to talk about our experience there. He was willing to listen to our concerns our mom’s care while there. Hopefully this will help someone else. No matter where your parent goes, keep close tabs on everything because I think care issues happen at all of them. Our elderly mom was there for three weeks. We were pleased with how she was treated by staff for the most part. There were a few times Mom was encouraged to “just go in the bed and I’ll clean you up”, which was very upsetting to her. The proper use of a fractured bedpan should be reviewed with staff. She had a surgically repaired broken femur, near the hip joint and using one improperly is painful for the patient. Good point- any necessary testing/procedures were done promptly. Amber is especially good at communicating with family. You hear good and bad about all places like this so it’s important to be a presence for your loved one. If they can speak for themselves and understand it’s easier but if they are impaired with dementia, you must be a frequent advocate for them, wherever they are. Prescribing meds and their dosages happens at a higher level than the nurses and their staff so I would suggest that you be sure to have an updated list to review in real time. We were very concerned with Mom’s lethargy and inability to participate in PT. We thought it was oxi causing it and asked that it be cut back. No one told us about the twice daily 750mg doses of a muscle relaxer she was getting. If you’re too out of it to eat, you don’t have the energy to do therapy, plus you can’t stay awake to try. In a short time, palliative/hospice care will be mentioned, which is very upsetting. We credit the CNAs, LPNs and nurses with getting Mom to walk to the bathroom when needed. Yes, she needed a lot of help but they had her doing it! Their care of her made all the difference. I can’t remember all the names, or didn’t see their tags but want to mention Amber, Wannie, May, Celine, Latavia, Sereta, Princess and Esther especially, as excellent caregivers. If this review were for them, it would be five stars. I reduced it to two stars this morning after seeing our Mom sitting at the table, fully dressed, eating breakfast after walking to the table (with assistance) after being advised to put her in hospice care to die. Again, be a daily presence for your loved one if possible.

I’m giving a 1 star rating. There are a few select staff there that are great. They treated my grandmother with dignity and actually cared about her well fair. They did their best and it really showed. However, If you have a loved one with dementia or can’t advocate for themselves watch this place like a hawk! Try to check in at different times throughout the day. Ask questions. Questions about what/how much they ate and drank. Bathroom habits, ect… My grandmother was there for a fractured hip. She was way over medicated! Medicated to the point she couldn’t eat or drink on her own. Could barely stay awake and very lethargic. Because of that she wasn’t able to get up to use the bathroom. Some of the staff were resistant to use a bedpan pan and she was told to “just go” in her diaper. When they were willing to actually use a bedpan they put it under her the wrong way on 2 separate occasions because “that’s how they were trained.” That caused her a lot of unnecessary pain. She was too weak from lack of nutrition/over medicated to do the physical therapy and “rehab” that she was there to do. This lead the higher ups to decide she needed palliative care and to just “make her comfortable.” When we found out how much medication she was receiving we cut down on the amount. She was then about to get up to use the bathroom with assistance. She was able to eat and drink more and was more alert. We got her out of there as soon as we could. She’s made a lot of improvement now that she’s not under their “care” anymore. With assistance She can get up, get dressed, walk and eat. Stark contrast with her conditions at Sterling! If it was up to them and their treatment team she would have just continued to be over medicated, let her waste away and die. It’s completely disgusting and heartbreaking.

I am Biishop Roger Tatuem, Overseer of Helping Hands Ministries in Churchville, Maryland. I. Visited my parishioner, Minister Janice Grant. I prayed for both Min Grant and her roommate. The facility was clean and absent of the fowl odor normally found in nursing facilities. The front desk staff was very polite and helpful. My grandmother, Eva M Logan was a patient at this facility in 1998-99. In my opinion, she was not well cared for and eventually passed while there. I witnessed a remarkable improvement since her stay there.
