Firstly, St Mary Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare is way understaffed. It would be remiss of me and unfair to the staff if I didn't mention that upfront. I get that it's very difficult to keep staff, let alone good staff...and sometimes St Mary Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare is just desperate for a "warm body"...but I say get rid of the bad ones, and pay the good ones more money! They work hard!

That said, the two CNAs in mom's hall are "good ones"--exceptional, actually. Michelle Flemings is mom's CNA at night, and sometimes when picking up an extra shift, overnight. Michelle delivered dinner to mom and when she wouldn't wake up to eat, Michelle thought she would let her sleep a bit. Michelle went back in a couple of times to check on her. When it got really late Michelle tried to wake her again and mom was not responding to commands, but only her name. Michelle got the nurse on duty and mentioned that it wasn't like mom to not eat, and to sleep all day like this. The nurse on night shift, Judith, assessed her along with Robin, the Unit Manager; they called 911 immediately. Mom was in septic shock. If it wasn't for Michelle noticing mom's unusual behavior and being persistent, mom would have passed during the night if she just left her to sleep.

The other CNA is Veronica Landid. When I mentioned how grateful I was for her help on occasions when she assisted Michelle with mom, she said, "I would want the same care for my mom. I'm happy to do it; it's my job!" What a beautiful attitude; so refreshing!

We are also eternally grateful for Michelle Chamberlain, the Director of Nursing. Michelle was so supportive through this hard time, and has been over the years. She's always available if I need anything, which gives me much needed peace of mind!

Now this is a 5 STAR FACILITY. I want to take the time to publicly thank Destiny, the Director of Admissions, who took her time to provide me a last minute tour. She was very thorough, informative, and pleasant. I read reviews about her knowing the residents, and it is not a lie. First impressions are everything, and I was very pleased with my experience visiting this facility. The chapel was gorgeous and the staff were very welcoming.

My dad has only been there overnight so far, it's going to be a couple weeks I think, but as things goe right now, he has nothing but good things to say about the place. He's been in other physical rehab places and always complains about the coffee and the food, but not at St. Mary's. He told me the food was really good and so is the coffee! My sister has had to speak to the nurses station a few times about our dad and they were all very nice and helpful as well. So far so good! I'm glad he likes the place, gives me peace of mind.
