St John of Kronstadt Memorial Fund

St. John of Kronstadt Home is a residential care facility for the elderly located in Los Angeles, founded to serve the Orthodox and Russian-speaking community in California. Established through the efforts of its founder in the early 1960s with the blessing of Orthodox Church hierarchy, the Home has been guided over the decades by a succession of administrators and remains under the spiritual oversight of an Orthodox Archbishop. It operates under the laws of the State of California and is overseen by the Social Security Administration.

The Home offers each resident a separate room along with daily housekeeping and laundry service. Russian cuisine is served four times a day, reflecting the cultural and linguistic character of the community. Staff assist residents as needed with dressing, bathing, and taking medications, with these services included in the cost of residency. A primary care physician and visiting specialists, including dental and hygiene care, are regularly available to residents, with particular attention given to those recovering from surgery or illness.

Residents are expected to be able to move about the building independently, though temporary use of a cane, walker, or wheelchair is permitted. The Home maintains an active religious and social life: an Orthodox priest visits monthly to serve the Sunday Liturgy, and outings to nearby churches are arranged. Residents may receive visits from relatives, go out into the city, and take trips outdoors.

Community traditions are an important part of daily life at the Home. All Orthodox holidays and residents' birthdays are celebrated, and the Home hosts charity dinners and concerts throughout the year. A Ladies' Committee also supports activities and programming for residents. The staff describe the culture of the Home as one built on family-style continuity, professionalism, and a long-standing spirit of care and mutual support among residents and employees alike.
