I am writing this review to share my family’s experience with St. James Resident Hospice, in hopes that concerns about resident care are taken seriously. During my grandmother’s stay, there were multiple incidents that raised serious concerns about her safety, dignity, and overall care. Most alarming was an incident in which my grandmother was found with an injury to her eye. Our family was informed that she had been punched, yet the facility stated they were unable to determine which staff member was responsible. This lack of accountability is extremely troubling. Additionally, my grandmother was left sitting in urine for extended periods of time on more than one occasion, indicating neglect and inadequate supervision. We also personally witnessed staff members speaking harshly and yelling at residents, which is completely unacceptable in a care environment meant to provide comfort and compassion. From the beginning of her stay, personal belongings went missing. Despite reporting these concerns, no meaningful action or follow-up was taken by staff. This ongoing issue added to our distress and eroded trust in the facility. Based on our experience and direct observations, we feel that the level of care provided does not meet the standards expected of a hospice facility. Residents deserve to be treated with respect, attentiveness, and kindness, and unfortunately, that is not our experience at St. James. I strongly encourage management to thoroughly investigate these concerns and take immediate steps to improve staff accountability, training, and resident care.

My dad is in skilled nursing at St James House for the second time in two years, and he’s had the best care that either of my parents have had in previous rehabilitation facilities. Most of the staff has been there for years, which speaks highly of the work environment, and they welcomed my dad back like an old friend. The office staff has been so good to keep us informed about Dad’s progress as well as insurance updates. The nursing staff and all workers who help patients are very open, genuine and caring people and have been so good to my dad. He’s happy which makes me happy. I highly recommend St James House for nursing and rehab. The people there treat one another like close family.
