No one wants to need help—but sometimes we do. Here’s my recent experience with South Haven Nursing and Rehab: The building may be older, but it’s clean and well cared for. Every weekday, a kind Latina lady faithfully came to clean my mom’s room—her consistency and care made a big difference. My mom is a foodie, and she loved the food! The nursing staff was absolutely amazing—Lawanda, Laura, Kevin, and every nurse we encountered showed compassion and professionalism. The CNA team deserves special recognition: Carmen, Arcelli, Micala, Ardriana, Diana, Earl, Erika, and Letecia—each one was patient, attentive, and kind. Thank you to OT Jennifer and Debbie, and PT Terry and Patrick, for motivating my mom daily and helping her regain her strength and independence. Your encouragement helped her walk again and restore confidence in herself. If you approach this type of experience with the right mindset, what feels difficult becomes more peaceful. Even when the staff was short-handed, they took time to communicate and explain, which made us feel cared for. Hope, who often gave baths, always carried a joyful spirit. September, the social worker, explained everything clearly, so we never felt confused about the process. The activities coordinator fills the place with joy and creativity—there’s always something fun going on! The facility also offers thoughtful amenities: A family room with vending machines for visitors A chapel for prayer Two large dining rooms Free coffee during breakfast, lunch, and dinner A peaceful bunny patch and a beautiful fish tank in the lobby Clean guest bathrooms and a welcoming atmosphere All in all, while this journey wasn’t easy, it was filled with kindness, compassion, and grace. I’m truly grateful for everyone at South Haven Nursing and Rehab who helped my mom recover and feel at home. 💙

As someone who works in healthcare, these "nurses " don't seem to have the training or knowledge of being in that position. More or less it's the head nurse who is a problem. Therapy is great. Nursing needs a reality check, and I know who to call for that one. Nursing staff sit behind desk on their phone and don't know simple questions and makes the techs do everything. Definitely will be getting my family out ASAP. As for the nursing home part, I can't imagine how they're being treated. And my family is only in there for a few days. Saw a nursing staff yelling at a family member for just trying to go outside and didn't know about the alarm system. I've seen this before and sadly I made a call that had to clear the whole staffing. Might have to for here as well. It's getting pretty bad.

The appearance of the rehab center is somewhat out dated. However, my mom received excellent care there. She ate well. I asked every day how the food was. She always said it was good. She recovered and hugged many on the way out the door. She expressed so much gratitude and emotion when she left. They got her back on her feet. Thank you to all the South Haven nurses and staff.

My husband was in rehab for many weeks. The care he received was excellent. The home is clean. Therapy was challenging, but with instructions from Bob and Angela he was able to walk with a walker. He is home and has physical therapy and occupational therapy and doing well. Thank you very much. Have a wonderful and Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to all. John & Karen Balitewicz

I would not recommend sending your loved one here, unless you can be there with them every day to make sure they’re getting the care they need. My uncle was there from October 2023, up until he passed in April 2024. Nurses and CNAs were not using the proper machines to get him up, instead they were “2 personing” him, mind you he was a bigger guy. Instead they would rather hurt themselves and him, would always complain that their back hurt and that their workers wanted to file for workman’s comp but never wanted to use the proper machine to get him up. My uncle was on a feeding tube, instead of swabbing his mouth often like they should have been doing, they let his tongue/lips scab up so bad, I had to even ask them to start doing proper mouth care, even told the nurse/cna they wouldn’t want to have a dry, crusty mouth like they let him. He started to go out for the music activities at the end, but they usually left him in the bed or sitting by a nurses station. Family was on a list to receive updates, never once got a call. And when I did call, they wanted to be rude, so I would just show up to the place since they couldn’t talk to you on the phone. Half the time we came in to visit, my uncle would be on the floor/floor matt, they never cared to get him up until we showed up. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE UNLESS YOU CAN CHECK UP ON THEM EVERYDAY. Luckily a family member worked there up until his passing. I want to post pictures but they’re just disturbing to see.
