Beware of opportunistic aides working at this agency looking to take advantage of the vunerable elderly population! I was floored when my father told me he was going to move his Senior Helpers aide into his home to offer her virtually free housing, along with her young kids, but, I was absolutely and utterly appalled when he informed me that he spoke with staff who told him this wasn't an issue! Where are the professional boundaries?! This woman has weasled her way into my father's good graces because he's lonely and likes female attention and she's very well aware of this. He's 90. He has cognitive decline due to age and health issues. He's going to run out of savings shortly which will happen even faster with her and her kids living off of him. He will need to start accessing money through his assets eating up whatever he has left. He's also added this gold digger to his car insurance (another expense AT HIS COST) so she can take over using his car. I'm sickened. I will say outside of a couple scheming aides our experience with other staff has been good but this is outrageous! Keep in mind, when using this agency, your loved one could have a great experience or could easily be swindled and taken advantage of and this organization will condone it! Edited to say my father's service is through the VA and I will be contacting them about these abusive and exploitative practices that the agency condones.

Senior Helpers took care of my father's 94-year-old widow (I'm the closest of kin) for the last 7 months of her life, beginning with a few hours a day to fulltime 24/7 care. What impressed me most was the importance Senior Helpers placed on finding the right match, which was particularly important due to FW's initial reluctance to having a caregiver and strong opinions. Before even assigning a caregiver Alex (the owner) interviewed FW to ensure a good fit, in addition to carefully listening to my comments and asking insightful questions. Due to FW's changing needs, we had several caregivers over the 7 months. Each one was competent and compassionate, but if one wasn't a good match personality-wise, Alex and Suzanne didn't hesitate to make the change. Senior Helpers also gets 5 stars for communication and for caregivers who work well as a team. Throughout the 7 months, Alex and Suzanne always responded quickly to my concerns and to FW's changing needs. And, critically, FW's caregivers developed relationships with the staff and medical personnel at FW's senior living facility and others (such as the hospice nurse toward the end) to ensure the best overall care for FW. I have worked with one other senior care agency and Senior Helpers was far superior. Senior Helpers, thank you!

So grateful and happy with the care provided by Senior Helpers of Somerset for a family member in need of assistance over the past ten months. The owner(Alex) was always responsive and helpful from the initial appointment and throughout our time with the agency. The aide and visiting nurse provided were friendly, professional, compassionate and patient. From assistance with bathing, laundry and linen changing, trips to the grocery store or pharmacy, calling if there were health concerns or just listening or sharing stories together, they were wonderful. It was such a relief to know that a loved one was being looked after by such caring individuals. As a nurse myself, I appreciate their help and would reach out again if needed.

I'm incredibly disappointed in the service we received from Senior Helpers. This company was referred to me by a close friend of mine who used them years ago, so I decided to give them a shot when I needed to find care for my mom. Perhaps they have gone downhill since that time... Honestly, I initially had a good impression of Alex, the owner, when I spoke to him. He seemed like a caring and compassionate person. What he promised in the services his company provides sounded like exactly what my mom needed. He said that all the home health aides are trained, will bathe and clean my mom, feed her, help her with her PT exercises throughout the day, will do light housekeeping related to my mom, and accompany my mom to her doctor appointments. However, in execution, the home health aides that they sent my parents were NOT well-trained, were unreliable and unprofessional. My mom is currently very weak and has lost alot of her mobility due to a lengthy hospital and rehab stay. She had recently been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and was also dealing with side effects from her cancer treatment. We communicated that we needed trained aides that could come and help my Dad care for my mom during the day. We needed someone that could help bathe her and change her, encourage her to eat, and help get her up out of bed throughout the day to sit up and do her PT exercises so she can regain her strength. The first aide they sent us was a 75 year old woman. She was nice, but unfortunately needed my Dad's assistance for literally everything. She basically would wait for my Dad to do most of the work, while she looked on. She was also afraid to do any PT exercises with my mom because she said she was too weak. Not sure why we are paying $37 per hour for someone to watch my Dad do most of the work. She would be better suited to be a companion, rather than a home health aide that actually performs tasks to help my mom. The second home health aide they sent us had a bit more experience than the first aide but she was oftentimes on the phone chatting. We are not talking about 1 or 2 phone calls during her shift. We are talking about multiple phone calls throughout her shift. It was as if my Dad was interrupting her phone call when he asked her to perform some task for my mom. She kept saying she would get to it. Oh, I'm sorry, were we interrupting your phone call? Again, not sure why we are paying $37 per hour for someone to keep delaying helping my mom because she wanted to finish her phone call. And today, she left my parents' house in the middle of the day before another home health aide could arrive. When I spoke to Cynthia, the scheduler, she indicated that the aide was supposed to wait until another aide arrived before she left. She left my parents hanging with no help. Very unprofessional behavior. These were supposed to be two of their "top" aides. I can't imagine what an aide that is not considered a "top aide" by this company is like. On top of all that, we also received an invoice from this company that had errors. When I called to point out the errors, Jennifer, the lady from billing, was defensive and rude. She kept interrupting me when I was talking. We are absolutely DONE using this company. Thank god we were already using another home health aide service and have decided to give all our business to them instead. It was clear which company was a well run home health agency with trained home health aides, and which agency was just sending random people not fully qualified to care for someone in my mom's condition. All of my mom's care needs were communicated to Senior Helpers beforehand, but I guess they weren't listening or didn't care. I'm truly upset and regret that I wasted my parents' money by using Senior Helpers when they weren't that helpful at all. Definitely not worth the cost of nearly $300 per day for their services. We'll gladly pay the other home health agency for their services because they are absolutely worth it. Health aides that actually help my parents and don't add stress to an already difficult time.

5 Stars indeed!! Recently had the need for homecare services. Not easy. But I can't say enough good things about Senior Helpers - Somerset. A wonderful team indeed! From the initial intake call and in-home visit with Wendy (understanding and compassionate), to the after-hours call back from owner Alex, to the wonderful caring aides, and to the responsiveness by the whole team (esp Joann for scheduling). Makes it easier, for a tough situation of care coordinating for a loved one at home. Thank you from our entire family!
