I will say that when I first looked into a facility for my Dad, I felt this place was going to be the best choice, however I was wrong. My sister and I were very much involved with Dad's care, physical therapy, meals, and transportation. Let me say that Dad had a massive stroke and was left sided paralyzed. He was also left handed therefore had to learn how to feed himself and use his right hand/arm to drink anything. He did this very well after his initial stay at a facility in Round Rock after his discharge from St. David's neurology unit. Medicare has a protocol to follow after a case like this. Once Dad hit his level of having to go to a "skilled facility", our choice was Schulenburg Regency in Schulenburg, TX. We chose here due to the fact Dad's home was about 10 miles away. We could take him out for visits to his home and property to see his place as well as we felt he would have the opportunity for visitors to come see him. Upon his admittance, Schulenburg Regency knew he only had Medicare Part A and his Part B would not kick in until January 1 the next year. With this he was only allowed so many days of physical therapy to be covered by Medicare. Dad met those days of therapy. There were still additional days left in the year that were not covered by Medicare. The physical therapy department never stopped at the end of the approved date by Medicare. After the new year when they realized what they had done they called to notify me of this error on their part and said not to worry about it and it would be written off since it was their mistake. These services were in the fall of 2024. We decided in May of 2025 to move Dad home and hire 24/7 in home care for Dad. He had lost alot of weight due to not eating the so called food they offered to the residents. We put a small refrigerator in room and kept it stocked with meals, fruit, snacks, and drinks. 95% of the time we ended up throwing it away as the staff would never offer the food to him or would even ask him what he would like for a meal. He was refusing to eat the "slop" as he called it, that the facility made for the residents. One meal was a "pickle sandwich", yes a pickle on bread! Dad's roommate confirmed it! There were numerous times we would come and pick Dad up to take him out for a ride to his home or a doctor's appointment. I would call and ask to have him clean and ready to go however upon arrival he would not be ready, not be dressed, or be in a soiled diaper!! The staff was nice but so under staffed that there is no way they can take care of the residents properly. We moved Dad home May 9, 2025 and in December of 2025 receive a bill for $3800.00 for therapy charges in 2024! I confronted the office, director of nursing, lead in physical therapy, and the only response I got was " we are sorry but these charges are due". The business office has not even acknowledged their own fault and have chosen to ignore their wrong doing for those services they were never approved for and simply billed my Dad for. There is absolutely zero accountability with this place and will say I will not ever recommend sending your loved one here. Since moving my Dad home it has been told to me from previous employees that there are many behind the scene instances of neglect, harassment, and lack of care that takes place that is never seen or heard of. This is the third time I have been to the rehab facility since 2010. The facility has always been well maintained and clean. The staff always been professional and communicative. I have seen the treatments evolve keeping up with the best of known therapies. My arm was rehabbed after a torn bicep and this is my second time for my back. I am involved in the aqua therapy and their pool is well maintained. I highly recommend this team and this facility.

I have been an ICU nurse for over 30 years and have never seen a facility as clean, friendly and patient orientated as Schulenburg Regency. As a case manager for 10 years, I had to place many patients for family members so I always visited the facility where my patients went. This is by far the best I have ever seen. When the time comes for the need of this kind of facility, one would be blessed to be able to stay here.

A very caring facility. Staff members go out of their way to help residents stay in touch with family members during COVID-19 restrictions.

Terrific people with a clean, neat & tidy facility. I've been a medic almost 30 years & I've seen some nursing home horror shows but this place is a treasure. Usually you only see this sort of professionalism and compassion from a high dollar joint. Thanks for making Nana's last months so pleasant.
