Rehabilitation House

Rehabilitation House, officially known as Bletzinger House, is a transitional living facility in Neenah, Wisconsin, established in 1964 as Wisconsin's first Community Based Residential Facility. This non-profit organization provides residential support for adults with mental illness and co-occurring substance use challenges, offering fully furnished two-bedroom apartments designed to foster independence and community living.

The facility operates with 24/7 staff support and requires residents to maintain a primary mental health diagnosis, be at least 18 years old, demonstrate non-threatening behavior, and actively work toward sobriety if dealing with substance addiction. Residents must maintain regular contact with a social worker and commit to daily participation in groups and activities, including personal hygiene maintenance and household responsibilities.

Bletzinger House provides a structured daily schedule featuring affirmation exercises, educational and recreational activities, and weekly groups facilitated by a certified AODA counselor covering mental health, coping skills, and vocational development. Individual Resident Services Coordinators work with clients to establish and monitor personal service plans, helping residents develop essential life skills for independent living.

The community emphasizes practical skill-building through weekly grocery trips where residents plan menus and shop within a set budget, cooking community meals together on weeknights. Daily activities include crafts, games, and outings such as visits to local parks, the library, museums, art galleries, bowling, roller-skating, and movie theaters, designed to expose residents to cultural events and encourage community engagement.

Residents are encouraged to volunteer and participate in positive community activities, with staff guidance supporting their transition toward more autonomous living. The facility believes in empowering individuals to develop the skills necessary to successfully reintegrate into the broader community.
