My dad was here a few years ago in the skilled nursing wing. (Yes it was the tail.ebd of COVID & still very strict). Positves were the private, clean modern room, his own outdoor patio.lettinh out to a garden/larger patio. Negatives were nursing care. The head RN, charge RN and dietician did not know what CHF was and kept pushing po fluids on him. As an ICU RN I spent a long time educating them about CHF and why it was important to limit his fluids. They never got it. He came home 20lbs fluid overloaded and ended back in the hospital getting diuresesd because of this. Their favorite thing to say is : the doctor ordered it this way etc. Rather than questioning the orders, asking for the orders to be adjusted/changed. Zero critical thinking skills. They kept giving him a bowel regimen even though he had terrible diarrhea & had to sit in waiting to be changed constantly. When I asked them to hold his laxatives... I got the same response. "The doctor ordered it". Not a thinking brain in the place. Only to have the same.e conversation with them over and over. I showed every single nurse how to check for edema and fluid overload. And what labs to look for. I have no idea where these nurses went to school. Anytime any RN or LVN says they are doing something "because the doctor ordered it". Is flat out frightening. The nurses should be checking all.tje orders , know why they are doing them/what for and question or get changed any orders that are not correct or dangerous. And you can't blame COVID for this lack of basic knowledge!.
