Watching my mother die was the most painful experience of my life. And ProHealth Home and Hospice made it even more painful. We were referred to this agency by the hospital. We did not choose them. From the very beginning, there were red flags. What I experienced was not hospice care. It was bare-minimum care from an overwhelmed, neglectful, and disorganized agency that treated my dying mother like she was just a number. One of the first nurses they sent into our home was shockingly rude and disrespectful not just to me, but to my mother, who was terminally ill and in pain. This nurse upset her so badly that my mom was shaken for hours. She came into our home and treated us like we were nothing. It was one of the ugliest encounters I’ve ever had in my life. The neglect didn’t stop there. Another nurse came to the house. I didn’t hear her knock, and instead of calling or texting me, she simply left. She left. No vitals were taken. No care was given. My mother, who was dying of cancer, sat there waiting and wondering why no one helped her that day. It hurt her deeply. She didn’t understand why someone would just walk away like that. I didn’t either. We were with this agency for about two weeks. During that time, I had heart palpitations every time I had to speak to someone from their team. It was constant stress and second-guessing. I felt like my mom was not a priority. I felt like she didn’t matter to them. And the truth is, she didn’t. We were failed. Two of the nurses we encountered were either incompetent or just didn’t care, or both. When someone you love is dying, you see very clearly what people are made of. What I saw was a total absence of compassion, reliability, and dignity. Eventually, I listened to my gut and got her transferred to another hospice agency. The change was immediate. Night and day. She was properly cared for in her final days, and I will always be grateful that I got her out of ProHealth when I did. Because honestly, if we had stayed with this agency, I believe she would have died a painful, undignified death. Hospice is supposed to be about comfort, presence, and compassion. This agency gave us none of that. They caused us harm. I am writing this review so that no one else has to go through what we did. Please do not let this be your family's experience. Do not use this agency. If Casey and Kelly ever read this, I hope both of you self-reflect and think about whose homes you are going into each day. They are human beings facing death. You should take that seriously and understand the gravity of it. It frightens me that people like you are out in the world.
