About WK Progressive Care Center

WK Progressive Care Center is a 48-bed skilled nursing and long-term care facility located in Shreveport, Louisiana. It serves patients recovering from surgery and injury as well as those requiring ongoing skilled care.

Family experiences at the center vary markedly. Some families report exceptional care and recovery outcomes, with one patient noting that "everyone was thoughtful and caring" during a 12-day stay following femur surgery, and praising the physical therapy team's approach. These families highlight good food quality and staff who go beyond clinical duties. However, other families describe serious concerns: inconsistent communication about care plans, staff rudeness and lack of compassion, and at least one account of a medical crisis, a patient with kidney stones, where the facility allegedly refused emergency transport and a staff member responded dismissively to severe pain.

The facility carries a 3.6 out of 5 Google rating based on 14 reviews. The stark divide between five-star and one-star assessments suggests outcomes may depend heavily on individual circumstances and which staff members are involved in a patient's care.

was in this place recovering from a broken knee, 2 days in had COVID, did NOT tell me I had it, was taken , out of my room to the isolation wing and ended up getting kidney stones, I was in agonizing pain and the nurse said to shut up and slammed my door shut. She would not send me to the emergency room right across the road. I couldn't have any pain medications because I had thrown up that morning, so I was screaming from the horrible pain!! By the time I finally got sent to the WK North emergency room, I got a blood infection and a urine infection!!! Spent a week in WK North, and fought to NOT be returned to this horrible care center, finally got a doctor on my side to send me to another care center to recover from my broken knee.

I do not recommend this facility to anyone, please do not take your family there. The workers are very rude and unprofessional. They will not speak to you when you enter the building, and when you asked a question about your love one they never give an explanation or answer. My aunt was there and the treatment she received was horrible. The workers did not show and compassion toward my aunt or her health condition. One day I walked into her room the floor was dirty with food and other trash all over the room. My aunt was trying to feed herself and her head wasn’t up enough. The worker did not put anything around her neck and food was all over her bed. And another day the ice wad left by the door, when the nurse came into the room I ask was that her ice by the door, she said yes. I asked her so no one was going to bring it into the room. Also one of the employees taken my aunt call bell, and told her if she press it again they was going to call the police on her. It’s so much more I can say about this facility. This company does not deserve a star from me or any of my family members.

The care I received was awesome! I was recovering from a broken femur and surgery. Everyone, yes, everyone was thoughtful and caring. The physical therapist pushed me with care (which I needed)! I was able to leave there after 12 days! The food was great. I always told the aids to tell the cook it was delicious. Their reply was, she is not a cook, she is a chef!! The 12 days there I never received the same meal twice except for breakfast. Thank you all for your loving care.

If you have a choice between this facility and any other, I'd pick the other. My mother was just in this facility, and while many of the PT and nursing staff members are great, communication was an issue from the very beginning. She was in there following a physical injury, and the people charged with her plan of care would consistently called me to tell me things or ask questions. I don't mind answering for her, but she is a competent adult who was often times being left out of the loop. Why would you sit down the hall from a competent adult patient and make phone calls all day long to a third party? I do not have power of attorney. I am simply a point of contact. They also failed to explain goals associated with her physical therapy. If specific goals are not met in an expected time frame, this causes concerns for insurance. While some of the staff members were great to her, I cannot recommend this facility to anyone.
