Pleasantview recently received a deficiency-free survey from DIAL (Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensure). This type of survey only occurs in approximately 5% of the long-term care buildings in the state of Iowa within a year (approximately 20 buildings out of around 400). The staff are caring and kind and there is a strong sense of leadership within the organization. They have built a new CCDI unit and are doing extensive renovations to the existing building as well as a complete renovation of the old nursing home structure which is now an Assisted Living. My siblings and I are grateful to the great staff at Pleasantview. From the first walk through with our parents a year and a half ago, through our parents move from their own home in Oregon into a Pleasantview cottage until now we have been impressed with the wonderful warmth and genuine attitude of service so evident among the Pleasantview staff. Since my own move back home to Kalona this past summer I have visited with my parents often and joined them at regular Pleasantview events like the weekly ice cream social and the wonderful fundraising auction for Pleasantview held at Hillcrest. In each case the staff have gone out of their way to create a warm and homey atmosphere. I’ve also had the privilege of observing the day-to-day assistance of the staff such as changing a lightbulb in my parents’ cottage, relighting their furnace, mowing their lawn and clearing the snow from their walkway, driveway and patio. Whether it’s the prompt and friendly ministrations of a maintenance man, the delivery of meals to the door, the easy availability of a regularly visiting podiatrist, the monthly cottage group dinners or the weekly ice cream social the staff of Pleasantview whom I’ve observed are unfailingly warm, kind and attentive to the residents. My siblings and I couldn’t be happier that my parents have found a warm, loving and safe home community at Pleasantview in Kalona.
