Abe's Garden Community is a Nashville-based senior lifestyle community and home care provider that emphasizes evidence-based approaches to mind and body health. The organization delivers person-directed care wherever a resident or program participant lives, meeting individuals and families at their point of need on their care journey.
The community's programs are built on decades of research in senior engagement and wellness best practices, which are incorporated into daily life across all of its care models. Abe's Garden Community also merged with the Education and Advisory Division of the Hearthstone Institute, a memory care and engagement consultancy, allowing it to train other senior living providers on brain health and memory support while offering caregiving education and engagement tools to families navigating dementia.
Abe's Garden Community offers a wellness-focused standard of living in its physical surroundings, along with personalized support intended to promote dignity, health, and fulfillment for residents. It operates as a residential center of excellence for those living with dementia, and also runs a membership program for individuals living with dementia at home who benefit from best-practice engagement programs. A specialized small group is available for people with early-stage dementia, focused on peer support, learning, and socialization.
The community recently completed a capital campaign and expansion, which opened and quickly reached full occupancy. A celebration event marking the completed expansion included the new Cal Turner Community Room, drawing more than 200 attendees who support the organization's mission.
Abe's Garden Community was founded in honor of Abram "Abe" Shmerling, MD, whose Alzheimer's diagnosis led his family to recognize the need for a memory care community focused on improving the quality of dementia care. Abe remains the inspiration behind the organization's ongoing work to expand its brain health approach to reach more seniors both on and off its campus. Abe's Garden Community operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
